Christmas Card with Brushos and Pillowtop Background

I have been playing with my new Brusho Crystal Colours and creating some pretty pieces that can be used for backgrounds or die cut elements on a card. I decided to stamp two different colored ones with the Snowflake Orb from Repeat Impressions to create some pretty ornaments.The gold tops of the ornaments were diecut with a die from Sizzix. I created the background by sponging lightly with a red ink one way and a green ink the other way, using a piece of acetate to create the lines. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.

Sketch, Colors and Thankful Challenges

I was inspired to make one more Thanksgiving card because of a new challenge blog and website I just discovered. Check out this sketch and color inspiration at My Creative Time:

Aren't those great inspirations? I love the sketch and color selection. Then I checked out The My Creative Time website here - oh my, so many yummy dies and stamp sets! I want them all!

I used the cream color to make the card front with a Sizzix fall embossing folder, and attached to a brown card base. Then I cut circles and scribble circles in gold, burgandy and green with QuicKutz and Paper Trey Ink dies. I added a gold cord bow and some sequins to complete the card.

Santa and Reindeer Gift Tag Set and Great Deals at Crackerbox Palace!

Happy Crackerbox Palace Friday! Today I am sharing a funny Christmas tag I made with Crackerbox Palace’s great stamps. I cut the top of the tag with a die from Elizabeth Craft Designs and the bottom with a stitched die by Lawn Fawn. I also diecut a second tag out of reindeer dp and layered the two tags together.  I stamped Santa stuck in the chimney on the kraft tag and paper pieced his suit and boots. I also stamped the snowflakes and the two sentiments, then added a piece of reindeer washi tape.

What If? Wed. Sketch Challenge at Repeat Impressions

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's time for another fun sketch challenge at The House that Stamps Built and we are challenging you to make a card using the sketch below and link it up for a chance at some great Repeat Impressions rubber! I love using Repeat Impression’s Flip sets because they tell a story even if you don’t put them on a flip or waterfall card. I stamped the Snowman Flip Set on the four central pieces of this sketch. So easy to round two edges of the small squares for this fun look. I did a little coloring and added a strip of washi tape and some punched snowflakes to complete this CAS card.

TTCRD Anything Goes Challenge

It’s Tuesday and time for another Through the Craft Room Door challenge. As always the theme is my favorite, Anything Goes! There is a new challenge every Tuesday at TTCRD. I am on Team A and this week is our turn to post our cards. The sponsor this week is The Stamping Boutique and the prize is 2 digis (3 if the winner used a TSB image in their card)!

I used the cute Snow Friends digi by The Stamping Boutique to make this fun Holiday Cheer card. I decided to focus on the snowman in the middle and paper pieced his hat, scarf and vest, then popped him up on pop dots. I added a sentiment cut out with a Paper Smooches die and a little Stickles for the sparkle in the snow.

Pinterest and Tim Holtz Inspired Christmas Card

There is a musical poinsettia card being pinned all over Pinterest land and I was inspired by that card- and by Tim Holtz- to make this card. The fun "Joy to the World" stamp is by Tim Holtz as well as the poinsettia dies used. I embossed the front piece with an embossing folder by Darice. I die cut the layers of poinsettia out of a kraft musical dp, then sponged on distress inks (also by Tim Holtz for Ranger.) I curled the pieces with a bone folder and attached with mounting tape to raise each layer. The white top piece was also attached with mounting tape for dimension.

NBUS Glittery Christmas Card

NBUS means Never Before Used Schtuff and my goal right now is to make atleast one card with all my holiday NBUS before it is too late. At a recent local stamp show, I did a make and take with the sparkliest embossing powder I have ever seen and this tree stamp, both from Stampamania. IRL this card is very sparkly because of the beautiful embossing powder and also from Glitter Dust spray by therm-o-web that is just gorgeous. The beautiful Merry Christmas sentiment is from a stencil from Hero Arts that I applied Versamark ink through and then heat embossed with the sparkly embossing powder. The rectangle card front was cut with a new stitches rectangle die from Lawn Fawn.

Peace Bokeh Card

I love the Bokeh look on cards and could not resist a new set by Julie Ebersole for Essentials by Ellen (Hutson) called Bokeh Dots. I watched Julie create a card with the little dots stamp and a die cut in a class I took recently, and so I tried that with her Peace die. The words were not clear enough with just stamping, so I diecut the "peace" in white and layered that on the card. The bokeh background was made with lighter shades of blue ink and more circle stamps from the Bokeh Dots set. I added some diecut doves (Memory Box) and some sequins to complete the CAS card.

Hope You're Back on Your Feet Soon Easel Card

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a fun get well card I made recently. With all the cold and snow, it seems lots of bugs are going around and we all might need a card like this to wish someone well. I used Crackerbox Palace’s tissue box stamp and there is real kleenex coming out of the box. I also stamped the sentiment on kleenex for a fun touch. I stamped the feet, cut out and popped them up with pop dots. The card is an easel card and the feet hold the card front up.

Playing with my new Brushos and Other Toys

First time I played with Brusho Crystal Colours, I stamped this tree (old set from Stampin' Up, but new to me), then added various shades of blue to make a pretty night sky. What I like about Bister and Brushos is, no matter what I do with them, I still can make a nice card with the background created. I made some snowbanks with new stitched dies from Lawn Cuts, added a deer (Memory Box) and a fun sentiment die from Paper Smooches. I decorated the tree with some gems and a star, and added some white gel pen stars.

Inspiration Photo Challenge at Repeat Impressions

I loved the colors in the inspiration photo- lime green with a splash of red, the glitter and the shape of the vase. I saw an ornament in the round shape and designed this card: 

Can I say I just love this card? I created a shaker with Repeat Impression’s ornament, some acetate, and mounting tape. I added white crystals, gold beads and red sequins as the shaker elements. The ornament becomes the O in Noel and I embossed the rest of the letters in RI’s Noel stamp with silver sparkly embossing powder. I added another red poinsettia inside the shaker window which I stamped and cut out of red paper. I completed the card with a few more red sequins and a Christmas washi tape strip along the top.

Giving Thanks Card

Hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving already. I have much to be thankful for. I finally had a chance to play with my new SU set of stamps and decided to make a CAS thank you card with some favorite colors. The embossing folder is from Darice and the corner punch from Fiskars.

First Christmas Card with Brusho Crystal Colours

If you follow me, you know I love me my Bisters and have had a blast creating with them these last few months. I heard of Brusho Crystal Colours which are similar powders that you can also sprinkle on watercolor paper and spritz with water to release their colors and was curious how they compared. A friend bought some and brought hers over recently for a play date. Now that's my kind of play date:) This is one of the first cards I made. I used the same stencil from Tim Holtz that I showed yesterday on the blog. This time I taped it down over a piece of water color paper and sprinkled on greens, reds, and lighter brown Brushos and spritzed with water. The result was this lovely watercolor look background. The first thing I noticed about Brusho powders is that most of the colors are truer without the brown undertones of Bister powder. I liked that, but some of the backgrounds I created were kinda boring without that.

To complete this card, I added two lines of thin washi tape, the same script Peace diecut I used yesterday and a new circle scribbles die from Papertrey Ink.

Santa came early to my house. He said I could go shopping in a Milwaukee mall and pick out clothes and/or jewelry I wanted for Christmas. I smiled and asked : if I really don't need jewelry or clothes, can I go on line (to Dick Blick here) and get what I really want? Santa said yes and two days later I had my Brusho Crystal Colors.  So far I like both Bisters and Brushos, but will be experimenting and sharing more cards with you.

Sparkly Peace Christmas Card

I was out of town most of last week, but am back and finally had a chance to play with some new toys I bought recently. I saw this card on Pinterest recently (scroll down) and cased much of it. The "peace" die I used is from Essentials by Ellen and the "on earth" is from Raisin Boat. I applied versamark ink through the openings in Tim Holtz's stencil and added super sparkly glitter to the red berries, then the brown pinecones and finally the rest with a sparkly white. Some of the white went onto the berries and pinecones so they look like they have snow on them. IRL it is very sparkly because I just discovered new glittery embossing powders from Stampamania. They are called "The World's Greatest Embossing Powders" and I will agree they are the sparkliest I have ever seen. (Is that even a word?)

My first card above features Quirky Mouse from Doodle Pantry. Isn't he cute? I printed him on white cardstock and cut him out. I also printed out the sentiment from the same Doodle Pantry set, cut it out with deckle scissors and sponged with green ink. The "cheese" top and bottom was created with a circle edge punch from Martha Stewart and a stitched die from Lawn Fawn. I raised those pieces up with pop dots and attached the Quirky Mouse on top.

My second card features an awesome stamp called Skateboard Girl by Kenny K. I printed her on white cardstock and cut her out with a circle Nestabilities die. I paper pieced her helmet, skateboard and clothes and colored the rest. I sponged the circle and the blue square card. I stamped Awesome (from Technique Tuesday) and attached the "seriously" diecut (by Lil' Inker.)

I was so excited when we were told about this blog hop and allowed to pick out a Die-Versions die to make our cards with. The only problem was picking out just one. I had to order a bunch more after picking this beautiful Trellis die because there are so many cool dies on the Die-Versions website here. 

I decided to make a romantic gold and silver wedding card with the beautiful Trellis die and a perfect sentiment from Repeat Impressions. I made an easel card out of gold cardstock and simply attached the wedding couple and trellis which I cut in silver. I stamped the "Two Hearts" sentiment on silver paper, but and embossed the piece with a Spellbinders die and attached with pop dots so that piece holds up the open easel card. This is what the card looks like closed:

Through the Craft Room Door Anything Goes Challenge

It’s Tuesday and time for another Through the Craft Room Door challenge. As always the theme is my favorite, Anything Goes! There is a new challenge every Tuesday at TTCRD. I created my card with a large Memory Box die called “Have a Jolly Christmas.” I chose to emboss with the die on a white piece. I used this sandwich on my Big Shot: glass plate on Tab 1, "Have a Jolly Christmas" die face up, white paper, "No More Shims" thick embossing pad, glass plate. “No More Shims” is a very thick rubber mat that works beautifully for embossing and is distributed by Scor-Pal.com.

I also cut out the die with red and green paper and attached the holly leaves and ornament to add some color. I rounded the corners with a Fiskars corner rounder and added some red and white gems to complete the card.

My POTW at Repeat Impressions

It's my turn to do the Project of the Week on both my blog and The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression's blog and I decided to share with you my favorite way to create backgrounds for my cards - using Bister powders and water. The process is very easy to do and every card you create is unique. Bister is a water soluble wood stain powder in many different colors imported from The Netherlands and sold in the U.S. by I Brake for Stamps here. To create beautiful backgrounds, you simply sprinkle a few granules of the color or colors you choose onto a thick cardstock or water color paper, spritz with water and watch the colors appear. Let the paper dry or help it dry faster with a heat gun, then stamp or wet emboss your images onto the paper.

For my first card above, I chose blue and natural (brown) Bisters and created the blue sky and light brown for the ground. The brown tones in the sky parts happen sometimes even when the color I chose to use was blue, but still makes for a lovely somewhat stormy sky. I stamped Repeat Impressions deer trio, large pine tree, large pine forest, clouds and little birds to created this scenic card.

For my second card, I created a square Bisters background using yellow and brown bister powders. The touch of green and blues appear somewhat magically. I stamped one of my favorite RI stamps, Crowned Crane Deco with black ink and heat embossed the bamboo with white embossing powder. On the white base card, I stamped the bamboo with black ink and grey and stamped the "Live, Laugh, Love" sentiment. I layered the bister piece onto a black frame before attaching to the card base.

I was having way too much fun designing with bisters and Repeat Impression's stamps to stop, so I made one more card to share today. This time I used a textured water color paper, less bister powders and more water to get a very light yellow and blue background. Then I heat embossed Repeat Impression's beautiful floral bouquet and colored the flowers with markers. I stamped the birthday sentiment and used a thin black marker to emphasize a few of the words.

So if you are looking for to make unique and lovely backgrounds for your cards, you may want to try Bister powders together with Repeat Impression's stamps.

Round Robin Wine Time Card in a Box

Happy Crackerbox Palace Friday everyone! I am excited because tonight I get to see my buddies Vicky and John from CBP, and I am sharing this Wine Time Card in a Box with 70 stampers at a local Round Robin stamp event. There will be 7 tables with projects and 10 stampers per table will have 30 minutes to make each card before moving to the next table and project. I decided to share this card in a box for a wine lover's birthday that folds to fit into an A2 envelope. Crackerbox Palace has a new set of wine stamps that I love (here on their website) and am featuring on this card. I also used a couple Martha Stewart punches and the Celebrate die from Cherry Lynn Designs.

I have done much of the cutting and assembly for the participants so they have enough time to stamp a little and put the card together. I think this Wine Time card in a box would put a smile on any wine lover's face and be an unique way to wish them a Happy Birthday!

Joyful Christmas Bokeh Card

I was inspired by a great sketch for our local stamp club to create this Christmas card using the Bokeh technique. Here is a link to photography showing the bokeh effect. This look is being used as an inspiration for card making. I used various sizes of daubers in light colors, one round stamp and some sequins. Then I added the "joyful" words cut out with a Paper Smooches die.

I love the “Beauty of the Earth” sentiment from Repeat Impressions and the Divi Divi Tree stamp too. I heat embossed those two stamps as well as some RI stars with black embossing powder onto a piece of watercolor paper. Then I sprinkled on blue Bister powders and spritzed with water to create this colorful background. After the piece was dry, I layered onto a black piece and then onto an aqua blue card.

I am very excited today to announce that I am now a member of the design team at Through the Craft Room Door! Blessings Fall Card

I am very busy this weekend and week with preparing for classes and a Round Robin I am teaching, but I stole a few minutes yesterday to make this new fall blessings card. I borrowed the IO leaves dies from a dear friend and I wanted to return them as soon as I can, so that was my excuse to play instead of work. The sketch is one we were to use for inspiration for this month's Stamp Club. I cut the leaves in red, yellow and orange and also cut them out of the green card front. Then I attached them inside the negative space so they lay flat (inlaid die cut technique.) I cut the sentiment banner by hand and stamped a favorite stamp from Crackerbox Palace. I added one more fall leaf which I raised with pop dots for contrast.

My first card above features a sweet digi from Bugaboo called Penguin Joy. I printed the digi on white cardstock, paper pieced the letters with my favorite Christmas dp, and colored the penguin with Copics. I rounded the corners on that piece and the dp and layered them onto a red square card. 

My second card features a cute digi from Kenny K. called Christmas Tree. The little girl and boy are having so much fun decorating their tree! As usual I paper pieced their clothes and the tree and did a little coloring with gel pens and Copics. I embossed Santa coming down the chimney and added "Believe" from a set by Tim Holtz.
