I am taking a CAS One Layer Cards on line class and learned so much already on the first two days of class. I was glad to see the instructors are being flexible with their definitions of one layer and CAS. I find it much easier to work with a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of cardstock for the front of my cards and then attach to an A2 card base. Then it doesn't matter what the back of your front piece looks like. This technique is called Faux Layered Die-cuts or Inlaid Die-Cuts. To get the look, you cut a hole with your die-cut and fill it with the pieces of paper cut with the same die so they lay flat at the same level as the front piece. I chose a quilt die from W Plus 9, cutting it several times with different patterned paper and then popping them back like a puzzle. A tip I learned from the class was to attach tape across the back of the framed piece and then the pieces you pop in will stick easily in place. I embossed a square frame with a Spellbinders square and my thick rubber mat, No More Shims. I added some hearts sponged through a Heidi Swapp stencil- I wish I had used a lighter touch with the ink sponging, but too late now. Next time:) The perfect sentiment is from Repeat Impressions.
Last time I took one of these classes, I had all sorts of time to play. That is not the case this time, but am hoping to have time to make and share a few cards each week with you. I highly recommend these classes and you can take it any time even after the live ones are done.
I am entering this card in the Anything Goes challenges at Addicted to Stamps and More and at Through the Craft Room Door.
Fantastic example of the technique Karen. I'm loving this class too.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card. Reminds me of a quilt block. I love that look as my Mom was an avid quilter. Not me...I hate sewing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the die cut technique...so cool!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool technique! Your quote coordinates perfectly with your quilt! Thanks for joining us at ATSM. :)
