Guy's Fishing Vest Card

I have seen fishing vest cards on Pinterest and even made a few years ago that has been one of my most pinned cards. I wanted to share this card in a "For the Guys" class in my home and no longer had a fishing vest card shape, so I made my own template. The easiest way to make one of these cards is to get the card and all the pieces all cut up for you in a package from Raisin Boat. But it was not too hard to draw and cut my own template. I traced it on kraft paper and white for the inside piece. I have three great fishing sets from Crackerbox Palace, Raisin Boat and Joy's Life, and I used them all. I sponged all the pockets and edges of the vest with brown distress ink. The vest closes with thread around two brads. This is what the inside looks like:

Double Easel Music Card

Recently I was playing with some more fun folds for my Fun Folds II class and  I designed this Double Easel Music Card. If you take the class, you will be taught how to make this card, but if you can't, here is a tutorial explaining how this fold is created. The base can be any size you want, but I chose to make it 7 x 7 and folded it in half. The top part is cut at 3 1/2" down 3 1/2 inches. I used stamps from Raisin Boat and Skipping Stone Designs for all the musical elements and paper pieced the bird and butterfly. The bottom notes piece is raised on pop dots to hold up the easels. Here is what the card looks like closed:

Online Card Class Die Cut Card

Recently I won two classes at Online Card Classes and I finally had some time to pick out which ones I wanted and watch the videos and gather all the great ideas they shared. Every so often they have a new class that you can take live and participate in the forums and galleries and maybe win a prize. But all their classes are also available to take after the live session is done and you get all the great ideas in the videos and lessons and you can go as fast or slow as you wish. I chose Summer Card Camp 2 and A Cut Above. I am only half way through and already have picked up some great ideas and used several of them in this card. A while back I saw the Memory Box Mercer Rose Wreath die and thought it looked pretty and ordered it on line. When it came, I realized it is just a white blob and really needs the matching stamp from Memory Box and so of course, I had to get that too. Getting them to line up was very difficult and I put them in a box to try again later. In the die cut class, they demoed exactly how to cut and then line up the stamp using a Stamp-a-ma-jig and I was able to do it! Yeah! Then I actually pulled my Flower Soft box out- very sadly neglected- and used my red Flower Soft on the wreath. The card base is 8 x 8 1/2 and the white punched border (ek success) piece is on the inside of the card sticking out - another great idea from the classes. I die cut my favorite Memory Box butterfly out of a two sided tape sheet and applied two colors of glitter to the wings- another great idea from the class. I attached the butterfly with a glue dot and large gem. Then I cut the Lil' Inker "thanks" twice in white and red and glued them together with a little of the white layer showing.

I love all the elements of this card, but my favorite die is the Memory Box butterfly all sparkly in red and gold. The challenge at As You Like It is to use our favorite die and tell why- I just love butterflies and this one is perfect with or without the matching butterfly shape from Memory Box. Baby Blessings Card from Crackerbox Palace

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a baby blessings card I made with Crackerbox Palace’s stamps. Crackerbox Palace has a whole line of beautiful women stamps here on their website, and this one is called Mother Goddess. I stamped her on a white cardstock piece, paper pieced her dress and colored the rest with markers. I created a form of an easel card by attaching a piece of yellow card stock to the back of a 4 1/4” x 5 ½” piece of yellow cardstock. I folded the strip in half down and attached the Mother Goddess to the bottom only of that piece. That easel piece is held open by a punched baby carriage circle attached with a large pop dot.  I stamped the beautiful baby sentiment from CBP on the side and added another punched circle to complete the baby card.

My fishbowl card is a gatefold card with a circle frame in the middle that shows the fishbowl and fish (raised with an adhesive spring) on the inside of the card. The gumball machine card is a shaker card with punched gumballs of all different colors. One thing I love about Repeat Impressions is that there are always clever and unique sentiments in every set of stamps they release. I love a comfy chair and this chair from Repeat Impressions looks like one I could definitely fall asleep in. I paper pieced it with a fun plaid dp. The sketch is CAS and I like that. I continued the comfy theme with some flannel dp in the background with a lovely and oh so true sentiment from RI. I added some washi tape and a few gems to complete the card.

Seas The Day!

I recently received some new Kitchen Sink Stamp sets that I earned by being published with their stamps- they have wonderful sets of stamps and a very generous publication incentive! This sailboat is from a small set of stamps and is a series of blues and black to create this realistic looking sailboat. I stamped it on watercolor paper that I cut out with a Nestie circle die. Then I used a water brush and distress ink to create the sea and the sky. I layered it on several squares and diagonal squares and added the dp corners for a fun sketch.  I added the perfect sentiment from the same set of Kitchen Sink Stamps. Of course- as is the case with all my favorite cards- I am sharing this one with my monthly classes in my home.

Acetate Christmas Card

I am a firm believer that it is never too early to start making our Christmas cards and this is one I made with acetate to share with the class who meets monthly in my home. I have been wanting to make a card with acetate but had to find the right weight of acetate before I had any success. I created an A2 card of the acetate, stamped the snowy swirls with Unicorn White Memories Pigment Ink and heat set them. I stamped the Christmas sentiment from Heartfelt Creations on green and cut it out with a Nestabilities scalloped circle die. The sentiment circle was attached in the center of the acetate card and framed on the front with a Memory Box snowflake wreath. The back of  the card has another Nesties circle where the personal message could be written. I added some red jewels and gold cord to complete the acetate card. here are a few more photos showing the card standing up and the back. The card is completely clear so the pictures show a grey background that. of course. is not part of the card. The card is much prettier IRL.

My first card above was made with a fun elephant shaped cutting file from The Cutting Cafe'. So easy and cute! I just cut out the card in green polka dotted cardstock, sponged a little and added a googly eye, a bow for his tail and his ear.

My second card features a cute dachshund from Oak Pond Creations. I paper pieced him on an oval cut with my nesties and layered him on a background with some washi tape strips and two shades of blue.

Crackerbox Palace Cracked Egg Spinner Card

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a circle spinner card I made with Crackerbox Palace’s fun stamps. Spinner cards using two pennies with a pop dot in a channel created with die cuts are making a big come back and I have some circle dies from Quik Kutz that create a circle channel that is the perfect size. But if you do not have them, experiment with the circle dies you have as they will work. The key is to raise the circle on the inside and the outside cardstock up with higher pop dots and to attach your spinning piece to two pennies held together with another higher pop dot. I thought it would be really cute for the cracked egg from CBP to be spinning around the card. I stamped the funny “true friend’ sentiment and few decorative elements in the inside circle. I embossed the outer yellow piece with a Tim Holtz Sizzix embossing folder that looks like a smashed egg to me.

New and Improved Deer Stencil Card

I made a card similar to this one a few years back and it was a favorite of mine, so I revisited the idea for my Stencil Techniques class in my home. The deer is a brass stencil by Dreamweaver. I embossed the deer image on a old book page using my thick No More Shims embossing pad. While the book page was still in the stencil, I sponged the deer with brown distress ink. I removed it and sponged the edges. The kraft card base is 3 1/4 x 5 1/2" closed, so when the pennant is added, the card will still fit into an A2 envelope. I embossed the whole card with a favorite Cuttlebug embossing folder. I wrapped some baker's twine around the dark brown pennant and distressed the edges. Then I stamped an old but favorite TAC b-day greeting on a tiny tag and attached it with a small safety pin.

I was inspired by a card I found somewhere on Pinterest to cut a martini glass shaped card around Repeat Impression’s Martini Glass. I started with the martini glass stamped on light green cardstock and cut out. I laid it down on a red polka dotted dp cut to 4 x 5 ¼”, and cut around it. Then I attached that piece to an A2 white card with a top fold and cut the final shape out. I added some green paper pieced olives and the perfect RI sentiment to complete the fun shaped card.

Guest DT Contest at The Cutting Edge

There is a new challenge called The Cutting Edge Challenge and they are celebrating their opening with a Guest Designer Contest. You know I love me my die cuts and I was intrigued by the window in the inspiration picture:

I wondered what I would like to see through my window, and I chose a beautiful peaceful Clear Views transparency from The Mark-It Place. I die cut the window (Poppy Stamps), branch and bird (Memory Box), and the "hello" from Paper Smooches.

But look- this card is a version of a tri-shutter with some slightly different folds to show the window scene. I embossed the whole card with a Sizzix embossing folder that looks like bricks so the front really looks like the front of a house. Here is what the inside looks like opened up:

I added a piece of dp with the sentiment from Repeat Impressions, CTMH and  another blue bird. The white piece at the bottom is to write a personal message and sign the card. I must give credit to this blogger and her card that inspired me to try this tri-shutter with a window.

NBUS Friendship Challenge Card

I discovered a new challenge and a new favorite stamping term - NBUS - never-before-used-schtuff! I have a pile of NBUS on my bed in my crafting room and refuse to put it away until it gets used at least once. Makes having company kinda difficult, but I am adamant about that rule. Problem is that the pile keeps growing and there is never enough time to play with it all:) The challenge can be found here, and you should see her list of prizes!! Here is my card:

The NBUS is the celebrate stencil (Memory Box), the Stampin' up sentiment and the glittery tape on the side. I cut out the Stampin' Up manequin , sponged it with a Memory Box floral stencil and placed it back in the hole the die created. Then I sponged the celebrate and frame in black ink. I added the new sentiment from SU and a thin line of glittery tape I could not resist at Michaels recently. I am giving this card to a friend, so that is where the friendship part of the challenge comes in.

Embossed Stencil Summer Card

What says Summer more than flowers and butterflies? Lots of steps to my card today, but not a lot of time to explain it.I stamped an old TAC word background, then embossed and sponged a Memory Box butterfly stencil using my No More Shims embossing pad. The trellis was made with the Stampin' Up chevron punch. I learned how to make the floral cone in this month's issue of Die Cut Crazy (digital die cut magazine only 99 cents a month direct to your iPhone or iPad.) This card is part of my new stencil techniques class in my home.

Butterfly Stencil and Inlaid Die Subway Art Card

I am having so much fun playing with stencils. There is so much you can do with them! In this case, I started with an open butterfly stencil from Heidi Swapp and sponged with light blue distress ink over another funky rectangle stencil from TCW. Then I removed the background stencil and sponged the edges of the butterfly with a darker distress ink.

I die cut the "thanks" (from Lil' Inker) twice- once in the front butterfly piece and once in a peach, then inserted the peach thanks in the negative from the card front. You also have to save and insert the little white pieces from the center of the a, k and s. Then to create the subway art look, I stamped various thank you sentiments over and around the inlaid die thanks. I added a few small butterflies (Memory Box die) to complete the square thank you card. If you would like to make one yourself and are local to Wausau, this is part of my newest class in my home. Have a Grilly Great Summer!

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a card in a box I made with a bunch of fun Crackerbox Palace Summer BBQ stamps. Grill Baby Grill! That stamp and the wish to have a Grilly Great Summer just make me smileJ If you have not tried a card in a box yet, I encourage you to check out a tutorial on line and then try one- so fun! They lay flat to mail and then pop open and stand to display all the elements you choose to decorate your card. I started with a red polka dotted cardstock and stamped all the fun BBQ sentiments for the sides, top and bottom. I stamped the grill, grill covers and Grill Baby Grill on red cardstock and cut them out. I used acetate strips to attach the grill and sentiment that pop up from the middle. Here are a few more pictures showing the card from the front, top and closed to mail with the back blank where you could write your message to the lucky recipient.

Butterfly Spinner Card

Spinner cards using pennies to weight the object that is spinning around are back. Years ago we made them with a channel created by our paper cutters, but now I am seeing them with circles cut with die cuts and decided to try one. I started by viewing this tutorial by Dawn here on her blog.  She later added a tip to use two pennies with a pop dot in between them, which is the way I had always seen it done. She used thinner SU dimensionals, but I had better success with thicker firmer but small pop dots. I also raised the white and sponged pieces with thicker pop dot material and the butterfly spins better. I started with an aqua blue card base. I die cut a circle in the center of the white piece- I am lucky to have a QuicKutz circle die set that cuts the two circles as shown plus the circular opening and it is a perfect fit for the penny spinner. But if you do not have that die cut set, Dawn shows the technique with SU dies and I am sure Nestabilities would work too. You would just have to experiment to determine which sizes to use to get the perfect size track and to have it even on all sides.

I embossed the butterflies (Craft Concepts) and stamped the sentiment (Simon Says Stamp.) The inside circle was sponged with a Memory Box stencil. I die cut the two butterflies (from Memory Box) and glued them together. I put a taller circular pop dot between two pennies and covered the top penny with a small white circle. I attached the butterfly with a glue dot and placed the pennies in the circular track. The weight of the pennies causes the butterfly to spin around as it moves on the circular track. I pulled out an old cloud stencil to create the background for RI’s plane silhouette in a purple circle. I embossed the black strip with a Sizzix embossing folder. The RI sentiment is perfect for graduation or other celebrations. I layered over an aqua blue front piece and added the gems to complete the card.

Wedding Dress with Tulle Card

I am loving the new glittery tulle I am finding at the local craft stores! I have several colors, but this time I chose sparkly clear tulle to enhance this bride's dress stamp from Stampin' Up. I framed the dress with a cutting/embossing folder from Cuttlebug over a black card base. I rounded the corners and added some pearls to complete the wedding card (part of my Dresses to "Die" For class.)

My Most Famous Card Updated and Improved

Today I am sharing an updated version of a card that has been published, won contests and resulted in dozens and dozens of emails about where to get the die cut, the transparency picture and the sentiment. When I saw my first feather card on Pinterest, I fell in love and started searching the internet for feather dies. My vision was to use the positive and the negative and the first few feather dies I bought, really didn't work well for that. Several years later I have finally found a feather die set by Kelly Purkey (purchased through Simon Says Stamp here) that works.  I wanted a die that was tall enough for the Clear View transparency (from The Mark-it Place) and as wide as possible to show the beautiful picture and this is the best I have found. I embossed the feather with a Sizzix embossing folder and colored the tip of the feather with a gold Wink of Stella brush pen. The speckled background was made with the Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer and a marker (any will work.) The best part is the beautiful Native American sympathy sentiment from Crackerbox Palace. I truly believe those I have lost still live in my heart and thoughts. The stamped and cut out feather is also from Crackerbox Palace. This card is one of four in my new Clear Views class being taught in my home and is one of my favorites of all time:)

Acetate Sponging Card for Classes

Today I am sharing another card I made for a new class I designed called "Sponges, Inks and Acetate". This one uses a  round piece of acetate and various yellows, oranges and rusts to sponge the circle.Then I added the goose and tree die cuts (Memory Box) and a beautiful sentiment to complete the card.

My first card above features a sweet kitty from Meljen's Designs called Miss Fancy Cat. I found a fun sketch on Pinterest for a square card with dp corners and diagonals. I used my Nestabilities for  the circle and squares and corner pieces. I printed Miss Fancy Cat and paper pieced her boa and feathers, coloring the  rest with my Copics. 

My second card was also created with Spellbinders dies for both the card base and the top layer. I printed "Pure Innocence" from Heather Ellis , paper pieced her dress and butterfly, and colored and sponged the rest.

Fishing You Were Here on Crackerbox Palace Friday!

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a card I made with some fun new stamps I recently received from Crackerbox Palace. This whole fishing set is perfect for many guys I know. I started with a blue piece that I attached some Washi tape to diagonally, then cut the Washi tape in half. In the center of the tape opening, I stamped “Wishing you were here!”, but covered the W with an F sticker. I stamped all the fish, lures, pole and boots, and did a little paper piecing on the fish. I cut out the fishing pole, attached it with mounting tape to raise and added some Wink of Stella glitter to the top fish.

Celebrating a New Adventure

I am so excited to share that I am now a monthly contributor at an on-line digital magazine called Die Cut Crazy. Between Memorial Day, Flag Day and 4th of July, I have been feeling patriotic lately, so I was inspired to make this Stars and Stripes Shaker Card. I stamped the stars (Kitchen Sink Stamps) on a white piece, then embossed it with a stripes embossing folder (Stampin' Up) inked with red ink. I created the star shaker with star Nestabilities dies, acetate, and various sequins. I finished the card with a few more star sequins and small red gems.

Baby Card for Repeat Impression's Designer Choice Challenge

It’s another Designer’s Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression’s blog. It’s Joy’s turn and the theme of her challenge is Baby Cards.  After you make your baby card, you can enter it for a chance to win some awesome Repeat Impressions rubber! For my baby card, I tried my first block card and am loving how it turned out. Here is a link to a video on how to make this fun fold. Lucky me – I have been on Repeat Impression’s design team long enough to have a bunch of fun baby stamps and I used every one of them on this block card. I alternated pink and blue squares for the blocks of the card, then stamped and paper pieced all the adorable baby stamps. I punched the upper blocks with pacifier and baby buggy punches. The card folds flat to mail and you can write your message on the bottom piece. Here is a picture of what the card looks like from the top.

Sparkly Tulle Congrats Dress Card

This card is a part of my new Dresses to "Die" For class and I had so much fun designing it! I found some sparkly aqua tulle at our local JoAnn's and could not resist it- my favorite current color and all sparkly for feminine cards. I started with an aqua card and a peach front piece die cut with a Spellbinders die. Then I die cut the Stampin' Up dress twice in sparkly white and the dress form in black. I layered one of the dress hems under the dress and attached the tulle around the waist. I taped it down with a sparkly aqua glitter tape and added a flower tinted with aqua ink. I colored some pearls aqua with a Copic and gave her a matching necklace. I finished the card with a Congrats cut with a die from Penny Black.

Enjoy Clear Views Easel Card for Classes

I am sharing a new card today I made with Clear Views Transparencies from The Mark-It Place, and it is one of three cards included in a new class featuring these lovely transparency pictures. I cut out an opening from the top of the easel piece with a Spellbinders die and created a frame with two matching dies. I attached the Clear Views picture and a piece of vellum behind the opening. The vellum covers up the back of the picture and also serves as a white background so the picture is clearer and easier to see. The "enjoy" is a new die cut from Penny Black and is part of a word set I just love. I stamped the perfect sentiment from Crackerbox Palace and cut it out with another Nestabilities die. I raised it with pop dots so it holds the easel card open and added blue sequins just for fun and to dot the j.

The real unique part of this card is that there is an opening in the back of the card (cut with another Nestabilities die) where the recipient can put a tea light that shines though the Clear Views picture at night. It is really pretty in real life- but hard to photograph. I had seen this done with vellum in the hole in the front and decided to try it with a Clear Views transparency and love how it turned out. This card could be used for a retirement card or a birthday card for anyone who loves the peaceful view of a lake.
