Jolly Christmas Card

Playing with my new dies and starting to make my own Christmas cards so I am not rushed at the end to get them done. This is a CAS easel card with a new die from Memory Box  and a Jolly die from Lil' Inker. I filled in the ornament and berries with red and embossed the bottom half of the easel card with a snowflake embossing folder. The easel is held up with some large pearls and I added some to the front as well.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

Are you ready for some football? I sure am! The Packer season starts in just a week! It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a special Packer personalized card I made for my husband’s birthday with Crackerbox Palace’s football stamps, including a custom made G on the helmet. You can get the G or a W for Wisconsin, but they are custom made stamps you need to request on a special order from CBP. I created another longer card in a box out of gold paper. Then I stamped the footballs in white and cut out, and the helmet in green ink on gold paper and punched the circles. The football sentiments were stamped in black on green cardstock and attached. I personalized the card with letters die cut with the Parker lower case alphabet from Memory Box. I am going to teach this card in my classes and let them pick out the name of their favorite Packer backer. We all know at least one of those, right?

Merry Christmas NBUS Card

I have a new stencil and die from Memory Box I had never used before and finally had the time to play with them. I created a CAS card sponging the background with blue ink and the stencil and then adding two snowflakes cut out with the new die from Memory Box. I layered the piece on a blue card base and then finished the card with a jewel. Very simple but I like how it turned out.

Happy Birthday Designer's Choice Challenge at Repeat Impressions

It’s another Designer’s Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression’s blog. It’s Melissa’s turn this time and she is challenging our team and you to make a birthday card. I used Repeat Impression’s Wine Time set to create this birthday card for a wine lover. I saw this version of a double twisted easel somewhere on Pinterest, but I tried and tried and cannot find the original pin or a tutorial to share with you. To create it, you cut an A2 card, then cut the front piece in half up to the fold line. Fold the left half in half down as in a traditional easel card. I cut out two bottles of wine, paper pieced the labels and propped this half up on two wine bottle corks stamped on cork paper and cut out. The right half of the front is folded in a diagonal like a twisted easel card is and once again held up with some cork paper wine bottle corks. I stamped the fun birthday wine sentiment three times, stamped some wine glasses and paper pieced a couple different flavors of wine. I layered the white piece on a purple piece and attached that to the bottom only of the folded right half. Here is a picture of how the card folds flat to mail.

Paper Pieced Shaker Card

Not looking forward to winter, but I do like designing with snowflakes and cute winter stamps. My favorite method of "coloring" is to paper piece with different patterned papers and that is how I dressed this cute boy. He is a very old stamp from TAC, but I think I may never get rid of him- too cute! I created a shaker card with doubled up mounting tape on the back of the blue textured piece after cutting a snowflake with  a Memory Box snowflake. I attached some acetate and then added some sequins and beads that shake when you move the card. I am sharing this card in a class I am working on about paper piecing.

Holly Jolly Shaker Card

I have been having fun with new dies from Memory Box and a new obsession with shaker cards. I have never had much success with shaker cards, but I think I have it figured out now. I used two layers of thin cuts of mounting tape around the square frame cut with QuicKutz dies. The "holly jolly Christmas" die cut sentiment from Memory Box was attached to acetate with glue and the jewels. I added "Vintage Glass Glitter Shards" from Art Institute Glitter for sparkly shakers. CAS Faux Chalk Hello Card

I am having so much fun with the faux chalk technique that Sandy Allnock came up with using open stencils, Copics and Copic blender fluid. I created a background on this card with Weathered Wood Distress Ink on a Hero Arts background stamp. Then I colored the outside edges of a butterfly stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils with various Copic markers. I doused a corner of a paper towel with Copic Blender Fluid and pulled the color into the opening in the butterfly stencil. I just love the soft look that creates! I cut a "hello" from Paper Smooches out and cut it again in black and popped that one into the hello opening. I layered the whole piece on an aqua blue card.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Card

I made this 50th wedding anniversary card for an article I wrote this week on personalized cards in a box that will be published early next year in Scrap and Stamp Arts. I created the card base with a gold paper that I embossed with a hearts embossing folder by Darice. I rounded all the corners on the box and attached hearts punched with heart punches by Martha Stewart and ek success. The "love" and "Happy Anniversary" are older stamps from Stampin' Up which I heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I die cut the 50 with my new Parker numbers from Memory Box. The flowers (Hero Arts) were heat embossed with gold embossing powder on clear and gold vellum, then cut out and layered on strips of acetate. The small heart flower die is from Lea'bilities. Here are some more photos showing all sides including the back where a special message could be written for the golden couple. Of course, this card in a box folds flat to mail in an A6 sized envelope.

Autumn Goddess Fall Card on CBP Friday

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a fall card featuring CBP’s Autumn Goddess. I really love the line of beautiful strong women stamps Crackerbox Palace carries. Autumn Goddess is just one of my favorites in this line you can find here.

I stamped her on a cream oval cut out with a Spellbinders die. I decorated her rust colored dress using a Dreamweaver stencil and a thin black marker using a technique known as Sten-tangle (easier version of Zentangle.) I also paper pieced her headband and did a little coloring with some Copics in fall colors. I attached the oval to the cream card base. I created some acetate stencils by die cutting Tim Holtz’s Tattered Leaves and then colored them using the Faux Chalk technique I learned how to do here on this blog.

Uber Cool Teenage Birthday Card

The hardest cards for me to make are ones a teenager might like. I think that is an universal problem because they also are the ones we receive the least of at Send a Smile 4 Kids. When I saw the cell phone set from Clearly Besotted and the slang set from Paper Smooches, I just had to get them to make some fun cards for teens. I started with a white card base, and added the corner piece and the thin lines of ombre orange paper. I stamped all the fun sentiments from Paper Smooches (totes:), and then embossed the whole card with an embossing folder from Sizzix. I stamped the cell phone and BDay sentiment (from Clearly Besotted) on blue paper, cut it out and attached with pop dots to raise.

I love to paper piece and this Dress Form from RI’s Pairings collection is perfect for paper piecing. I cut the dress form out with a Spellbinder’s die. The card base and three lines were created with an embossed peach cardstock. I raised the dress form piece with mounting tape. I stamped and cut out a spool of thread from the same set of stamps and added some buttons to complete the sketch card.

Floral Inspiration Birthday Card

I am sharing a new card today that I received inspiration to make from two different sources. The theme picture at The Cutting Edge Challenge has beautiful flowers on it made with dies (see below), and the stamping up north blog featured a series of cards using these dies and alcohol inks. I cased a couple of her cards to make this one- in fact I had to search internetville to find the Memory Box Lucienne Tile die as Memory Box is no longer making it. But I knew I needed it after seeing her cards and I succeeded in finding it! The rose die is by Penny Black and the sentiment is by Stamplorations. I used my sadly neglected alcohol inks on three separate pieces of glossy paper to make the background under the border die, the rose petals and stems and leaves. Here is the pix of the inspiration card:

I am so happy this new fun challenge has extended the playing time to almost two weeks. I will be able to get inspired, design and blog some cards to play in their challenge now. I am also entering this card in the Anything Goes challenge at The Squirrel and The Fox.

Black and White Sten-tangle Card

I am sharing another Sten-tangle card I made for a sketch challenge at my last stamp club meeting. For this one I used thin black markers and a variety of brass and plastic stencils. The bear and the other brass stencils are from Dreamweaver. The stamp is from Repeat Impressions. When you Zentangle, you doodle free hand, but I am not a good doodler, nor do I have the patience for it. But when you Sten-tangle. you use stencils for atleast the start and I used them for the inside of all the pieces too. Easy and fun. The hardest part is finding enough small patterned stencils.

Sten-tangled Birthday Card

I recently discovered a fun technique that is an easy version of zentangle. Instead of free hand doodling like in zentangle, sten-tangle used stencils for a similar but easier version. I tried it on this card with an open plastic butterfly stencil and then filled in the butterflies using different small pattern stencils. Some were brass stencils from Dreamweaver and some were inexpensive plastic stencils. For fun color, I used gel pens for the sten-tangle outline and doodling. I stamped a swoosh in three colors of ink and my favorite new "happy birthday". Both stamps are from a set by Avery Elle.

I am sharing two personalized birthday projects today. I love how easy it is to create special personalized cards and gifts with die cuts! For my projects today, I used my Silhouette Portrait cutting machine and Silhouette America cutting files. My first project is the birthday card in a box I made for my grandson Nate who just turned 8. I shared how to make a card in a box in the July issue of Die Cut Crazy and there are many tutorials available on line with different sizes of the card in a box concept. Nate loves Batman and super heroes so I printed and cut Batman on a motorcycle and the Batmobile from Silhouette America. I also cut some Batman logos and his name in a fun font and created this fun card that folds flat to send and then pops up for the special birthday boy.

My second personalized birthday project is the card I created recently for my son-in-law who loves soccer. The soccer cutting file from Silhouette America is designed for a wall decoration with the space cut out of the middle. I sized it for a card front and stamped the fun sentiment from Cas-ual Friday Stamps in the center. The top Happy Birthday was created with a punch by Martha Stewart.

I stamped the Ship in a Bottle from the Wine Time set on a blue patterned paper and cut it out with a Nestabilities die. That piece was raised with mounting tape when attached.

Personalized Birthday and Anniversary Cards

One thing I love about making my own cards for special occasions is how I can personalize them just for the special recipient. Yesterday was a dear on line friend's birthday and I made this card especially for her. I just got a new set of alphabet dies from Memory Box and the Happy Birthday and the flowers are also new dies from Memory Box. I hope Hilde received her card in time in Australia and that her year to come is happy and healthy.

Tomorrow is my 24th anniversary and this is the card I made for my husband. Not one of those 8766 days did I ever regret marrying this man:) Orange is his favorite color and I think he liked his card. We are celebrating with a fun getaway and dinner out at our favorite restaurant. Then we are picking up our favorite grandson and bringing him home for a fun week.

Grill Baby Grill Summer Food Card

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a summer grilling card made with fun stamps from Crackerbox Palace. I started with a yellow card base with a square frame cut out with a Nestabilities die. Then I cut a smaller square frame of blue and backed it with a green piece. I stamped, cut out and colored the bacon cheeseburger, hot dog and steak and attached them on different layers of the frames. I love the CBP grill sentiment- they make me smile. This card could be used for an invite to a BBQ or a fun summer hello to a grill master.

Cover of the August Issue of Die Cut Crazy!

I have had hundreds of cards published and many full length articles too, but I never made the cover until this  newest issue of Die Cut Crazy, so I am very excited! I am doing a monthly column called Never Too Early to Make our Christmas Cards and this is the card I shared along with a review of the Spellbinders Tool in One. Have you tried that yet? I love the Zig Zag die from Memory Box, but I used to have to poke out all the holes by hand in the paper and clean the ones out of the die too. With the Spellbinders Tool in One, you can simply roll the bristles over the paper or the die on a mat and they fall right out! I die cut kraft paper twice with the Zig Zag die and stamped the sentiment from Paper Trey Ink in the center. The poinsettia was cut with a Marianne Creatables die and colored with 3D Stamp Paint from Viva to make it sparkly. I added some greens punched with a Martha Stewart punch.

I created my sketch card using a mason jar, flowers and a sentiment from the new “Contain Yourself” set of stamps from Repeat Impressions. I embossed the mason jar and flowers on vellum with white embossing powder, then colored the water and flowers from the back of the vellum. I added a tag with the perfect sentiment and a butterfly and gems to complete the sketch card.

Chocolate and Sharing Ideas-These are a few of my favorite things!

I love chocolate- who doesn't? And I love sharing ideas here on my blog and in the classes in my home. I had made a teacup with Hershey's kisses that I learned how to make here on this wonderful blog. My class saw it and asked me to teach it in the next monthly class in my home. I found some more free tutorials on the same blog for butterflies, cars and Christmas trees, and asked the designer if it would OK to share her ideas with my classes. Brenda sent a lovely email back with her permission to do so. Here are the pictures of the teacup, car and Christmas trees I made and am going to share with classes in my home:

Shaped Mrs. Santa Card

I love making shaped cards and that is the challenge this time at Virginia's View Challenge. I used my Grand Calibur and the largest grands Labels 2 to create the card base for this card. Then I die cut the green layer with a smaller Labels 2 Nestabilities die. The dress die is from Stampin' Up and I cut it in sparkly red and white. I added a black belt and a snowflake for the belt buckle. The "joy" die (from W Plus 9) was cut twice in red dp and green and layered together, and I added a snowflake and red gem to complete the holiday card. This card is part of my "Dresses to Die For" class that I am teaching in my home.

My first card above just makes me smile, and I hope it will have the same result when one of our kids gets it:) The glow worm and lol sentiment are from DRS Designs. I stamped and paper pieced the glow worm on a white piece that shows through the frame cut with two Nestabilities square dies. I  colored his wings and bum with a sparkly gel pen and IRL they really shine. Then I stamped the sentiment, cut out with deckle scissors and attached to the front of this CAS card. 

"I Love my Swing" is the name of this cute digital stamp from A Day for Daisies. Isn't she sweet? I printed her on blue paper, paper pieced, did a little coloring and cut out the "hi" (die from Paper Smooches.) So easy, but so cute.

Masculine Card on Crackerbox Palace Friday

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a masculine card I made with Crackerbox Palace’s stamps and a background technique I learned from Lisa Eisner in the latest issue of Die Cut Crazy. I started with a top folding brown card and a light yellow front piece. I scored the yellow piece every half inch with my Scor-Buddy. Then I dragged a series of inks over the piece (yellow, medium brown and darker brown) to achieve this worn wood look. I cut a hole in the front with a Spellbinders circle die and stamped the ship circle in the inside of the card. I cut the brown circle frame and added some yellow candy dots to the window frame. I stamped the “Just Because”, cut out with a Spellbinders label die and sponged with Scattered Straw Distress Ink while still in the label die. I attached that with pop dots.
