Sympathy Bister Cling Wrap Card

A while back I was experimenting with BBCB and cling wrap and this background was one of the results. I used Bister crystals spritzed with glimmer mist spray, and then scrunched up cling wrap on the piece and let it dry. I decided to make a sympathy card with it. I attached a tree frame die cut from Prickley Pear and a few birds die cut with Memory Box and IO dies.

Thankful Napkin Card

I have been having fun with napkins after re-discovering the easy way to attach them to cardstock with cling wrap and an iron. (See previous posts for the link to the tutorial.) This time I embossed the napkin cardstock piece with a new favorite embossing folder from WeR Memory Keepers. I attached the card front to a brown card base and added some fall buttons and a "Thankful" die cut from Penny Black. It is a little hard to see in the picture, but my final touch was to add some blue frost glitter paste from BoBunny. I discovered BoBunny's glitter paste at the summer CHA and now have a bunch of colors. It is so easy to add a little glitter to a card. It is thinner and dries way faster than stickles and embossing paste. I simply added a bit of the frost blue glitter paste to the blue leaves with my finger. Here is a close-up that shows the deep embossing and the sparkle a bit better:

Two More Christmas Cards Done with New Penny Black

When I saw the new Penny Black dies and stamps at summer CHA, I knew there was no resisting. They had to be mine as soon as they came out:) The wreath is called Whirl Wreath and is on the cover of the new Penny Black catalog. The stamps on these two cards are from "Season's Gifts", a new clear set of PB stamps. I got this idea in my head to cut the wreath in green and white and layer it over the opposite color. I tried the card below first and decided the green was too plain and it needed something else. So I tried the idea again with green reindeer dp and a different sentiment. I added some red Stickles ornament balls on each wreath. Now I kinda like them both? What do you think?

I think they will both go in my Christmas card stash for this year and I will play with my new Penny Black goodies some more! I am entering these cards in the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, the Christmas challenge at Skipping Stones Stamp and Share, and the Holiday challenge at Live Love Cards.

Thinking of You Bister Card

I am working on cards for a demonstration for the local art association on Bisters, Brushos and Color Burst colored crystals. This is the card I am demoing to show the beautiful wood tones of Bisters. I sprinkled yellow, mahogany and green Bister powders on a piece of watercolor paper, then spritzed them with iridescent gold Glimmer Mist. You can use water to activate BBCB, but I like the shimmer  that happens when I use Glimmer Mist, although it is very hard to show on a photograph. I cut the piece down to fit on an A2 card base and added a beautiful die cut from Poppy Stamps and the perfect sentiment from Gina K. I send "thinking of you" cards frequently and prefer them over get well cards which are not always appropriate.

Peace Snowflakes Card

I have always loved the snowflake look created by Heather Telford and others using masking fluid, but was never successful until now creating the look. I bought some very expensive masking fluid when I first saw Heather's cards using it and tried spattering it on with a toothbrush as she suggested, but had no luck. So I put it aside for some time, then pulled it out again to try on one of my BBCB backgrounds, and the masking fluid was all hard:( I know more about spattering now, so I was determined to try it again. I bought some Liquid Frisket Mask with a coupon and tried flicking it with a small paint brush, but it would not come off the brush. It was too thick. Dotting it one with the paint brush looked too artificial. Then a brilliant thought occurred to me- what if I put some on my craft sheet, mixed in a little water to thin it a bit, and tried flicking it on the water color paper with a small brush? It worked! Even diluted, the masking fluid created a small circular mask, so when I sprinkled Color Burst on top and spritzed with water, those small "snowflakes" stayed white. I tried one of my new colors of Color Burst for the first time- Indigo, which is a dark blue. I mixed it with the original Color Burst blue and spritzed with water. When it was dry, I rubbed off the liquid frisket masking fluid and I had a snowy sky look. I layered the completed piece on a navy blue card and added a die cut tree border from Poppy Stamps, some doves from Memory Box and "peace" from Ellen Hutson.

Since I used "snippets" for all the die cut pieces, I am entering this card in the challenge at Pixie's Crafty Workshop, the Holiday challenge at Live Love Cards, and the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

Hello Handsome Sketch Card from Repeat Impressions

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's time for another fun sketch challenge at The House that Stamps Built and we are challenging you to make a card using the sketch below and link it up for a chance at some great Repeat Impressions rubber! For all the details on what you can win and to see the other Rock Stars cards using this sketch, please visit our blog.

I decided to feature Repeat Impression’s handsome crane on my sketch card. I stamped him on aqua blue paper and framed him with an stitched oval cut with a My Creative Time die out of a kraft piece. “Hello handsome” is from a new set of stamps soon to be released by RI. Two of four new word sets are on the website here, and two more are coming soon. I love them all and just can’t resist using them on most of my new RI cards! I added a strip of washi tape to finish my sketch card.

Here is the sketch for you to follow when you create a card for our challenge. You do not need to use Repeat Impressions stamps to enter our challenges, but you get an extra chance to win if you do!

Baby Card for my Grandson-to-be

My son and his wife are expecting a baby boy and when we visited them last week, I gave them this card along with their present so they could use it for something for the nursery and baby. I used a beautiful saying from Brian Andreas called "Such Small Things" that makes me tear up every time I read it. My daughter has the print from Brian Andreas with these words on the wall in my grandson's room, and I am going to purchase one for my son and his wife too. It says so much about how we love these children even before they are born. I made the carriage with a new technique from Fran of Stampendous that I am super excited about. It is called Deep Impression technique and I used Stampin' Up's baby carriage die and stamp along with glittery blue and regular blue embossing powder. I will  be sharing more cards with this technique and doing a workshop featuring the technique soon as well. The butterfly punch is from Martha Stewart and the embossing folder is from Sizzix.

Here is a picture of the baby carriage close up showing its awesome dimension and sparkle:

Rubber Cement Fun for Repeat Impression's Project of the Week

It's my  turn to share a Project of the Week at Repeat Impression's blog and mine. I love discovering new background techniques to try, and recently Ink Stained Roni shared several blog posts where she used rubber cement and Brusho Coloured Crystals to create some awesome and easy backgrounds. I ran right out and bought some rubber cement ($1.79 at my nearby Target) and then I played. I am so excited to share that Repeat Impressions is now selling the Brusho Crystal Colour Craft Spritzer Set with many of my favorite colors all in one kit! All the colors on these cards are in that one kit with a spritzer bottle too! Here is a link to the Brusho set on the RI website.

To make a fun background that looks like faux marble, all you need to do is drizzle the rubber cement onto watercolor paper. let it dry and then sprinkle and spritz with your favorite colors of Brusho Crystal Colours. Here are a couple pictures of the process:

On my first card, I chose two light colors- Lemon  and Sea Green Brushos for the first layer. I sprinkled on a little of the Brusho crystals, spritzed with water and then let it dry. Then I drizzled on some swirls of rubber cement and let that dry. I also drizzled the rubber cement on glossy paper to see how that would look.

I let the rubber cement dry thoroughly then added my magical colored Brusho crystals.  On the background with the light green and yellow base on watercolor paper, I added Turquoise and Orange Brushos and spritzed with water. On the glossy paper, I added Orange, Turquoise and Violet Brusho Crystals and spritzed them with water to activate the colors. On the glossy paper, the water does not soak in like on the watercolor paper, but it still resulted in a fun background. When the papers were dry. I removed the rubber cement with an adhesive eraser. This is how the pieces looked after this step, and the completed cards:

I cut the backgrounds down to fit on A2  sized cards and added some Repeat Impression's stamps and gems. The green card features one of my favorite RI stamps, Crowned Crane Deco. The violet glossy card features a sneak peak at a new word set that will be released by Repeat Impressions soon. I cut an oval with a Spellbinders die and sponged with violet ink while the piece was still in the oval die. Then I stamped "you" with turquoise ink and "did it!" with black ink. I raised this piece with pop dots and attached the colorful piece to a purple card base.

I had fun playing with rubber cement and Brushos to make these easy and colorful backgrounds. I suggest you give it a try!

Bee-cause You're Special!

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a card I made with Crackerbox Palace's awesome stamps. I used CBP’s sweet bees and a new sentiment to create this cheery card. I started with a yellow cardbase that I embossed with a new hexagon embossing folder from WeR Memory Keepers. I punched a bunch of black dp hexagons with a punch from Fiskars. I stamped the bees and sweet sentiment on a white square and did a little coloring. Then I layered it on a black square and attached everything to the cardbase.

Nate's Minion Card for his Baby Cousin

My grandson visited me recently and he made the Minion card above. I found one with brilliant instructions to CASE here on this blog, so we owe a big thanks to Kelley Kent for sharing. I borrowed a friend's Stampin' Up circle flip die and then I pulled out every circle and some other punches I own, as well as a bunch of colored scraps for Nate to make the various parts of this cute card. Here he is presenting the card to my son and his wife. Nate's baby cousin is due the end of November.

And here is a picture of how Nate signed the card he made and addressed the envelope:

So sweet! I am entering Nate's card in the Kids Summer Vacation challenge at Simon Says Stamp. and the challenge at Pixie's Crafty Workshop to use snippets or scraps.

Repeat Impression's Photo Inspiration Challenge

On the third Wednesday of every month at Repeat Impression’s blog, The House that Stamps Built, the challenge is going to be an Inspiration Photo challenge. Here is the photo chosen to inspire us this month:

I was inspired by the colors and flowers in this beautiful picture. I chose Repeat Impression’s rose and fern stamps and stamped them on watercolor paper. I colored them with Color Burst colored crystals and water. I stamped another rose with grey ink on white cardstock, then stamped “beautiful YOU” with a new stamp set Repeat Impressions is releasing very soon.

Frankie Card

Quick post today in between family fun times, so I will not be posting for a couple days. I have seen many of these super cute Frankenstein flip cards on Pinterest and on blogs and always wanted to try one. I have resisted buying the die (from Stampin' Up) to make the card, but borrowed a friend's to try a couple and they are easy and fun to make. This card is totally CASED and not my idea, but I was inspired by several different cards, so am not including a specific link. I used a variety of punches to make the card, and this is what the inside looks like:

I thought the sender could sign their name on the pumpkin piece. Now I am off to try a minion and maybe play with rubber cement  and magic colored crystals with my grandson.

Happy Birthday Purse Card

Did you ever seen an idea on line for a card and knew you had to make it- and buy the whole stamp set so you could? That was the case with the zipper stamp for this purse idea posted on Gina K Designs here. Of course, when I went shopping at Gina K, I didn't stop at just one set either... You will see more cards with my other new goodies soon. But I got a chance to play with the zipper stamp and their purse idea and this is what I came up with. The embossing folder I used is a new one from WeR Memory Keepers- one of several which are my favorite right now. Here is a closer look to see how deeply these folders emboss:

I followed the instructions on the video to cut an A2 card, round the corners and cut a piece out of the top. I heat embossed the zippers in gold, then embossed the front of the purse with the WeR Memory Keepers embossing folder. I added a black purse handle and some beautiful older brads. Then I stamped Happy Birthdau (from Flourishes), cut out with a Stampin' Up punch and added three small pearl. I love how it turned out and will be sharing the card with my in home classes.

Glittery Napkin and Diecuts

I made another glittery napkin card while experimenting with combining two techniques on the Christmas card for classes I posted yesterday. For links to both tutorials, scroll down to yesterday's blog post. I attached the pretty blue napkin to a piece of cardstock using cling wrap and an iron. Then I applied glitter all over the front of the napkin piece. Here is what the glitter napkin looks like close up:
It is very pretty and sparkly. I cut some pretty leaves and stems with a die cut from Memory Box and the words with a die cut from My Creative Time. The first layer of the "thanks" was cut out of white fun foam so it has great dimension and two colors.

Happy Holidays Sparkly Napkin Card

I was recently reminded of an older technique where you can attach a pretty napkin to a card using cling wrap and an iron. Here is a video that explains the process very well. After I tried that on some cards, I found another video that taught how to apply glitter over a napkin background here.  On the second video, she used a two sided sticky sheet to hold down the napkin, but I have found that the cling wrap technique works just as well and is substantially cheaper to do. For the beautiful glittery sparkle on the card above, all I did was apply Versamark all over the napkin front, sprinkle with a heat and stick powder, melt with a heat gun, and sprinkle glitter all over it. I did have an issue with some of the glitter not sticking and making a mess which the recipient may not appreciate, so I tried spraying it with a fixative spray and that solved the problem. I attached a gold ribbon and the "Happy Holidays" sentiment die cut from Impression Obsession.

The card is really sparkly IRL! Here is a close up picture that might show that a bit better:

I am teaching this card to my class next month in my home. I am also entering it in the S challenge at Crazy Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge (S is for Sparkle!) and the Anything Goes challenge at 613 Avenue Create.

Faux Marble Cards with Rubber Cement

I was totally inspired by this blog post by Ink Stained Roni to run out and get some rubber cement and try her Faux Marble technique with my Brushos and watercolor paper. She has several variations of the technique and I decided to try the one on the blog post I linked where she put down a layer of lighter colored Brushos and water on the paper, then drizzled on the rubber cement. After it was dry, she then sprinkled on some darker Brusho Coloured Crystals and spritzed with water before removing the rubber cement with an adhesive eraser. I decided to use iridescent gold Glimmer Mist spray for the top layer so it sparkles and then I spattered on black and gold dots made with black distress ink and a gold spray from Heidi Swapp. Here is what the pieces looked like when done:

I decided to cut the blue background with a Simon Says Stamp Mod Circle Frame, then remove the frame part after attaching the inside pieces to the front of an A2 white card. I added a "hey" from Paper Smooches for my greeting. My green card was cut with a stitched border die from My Favorite Things and then I stamped in the opening with a new set from Stampin' Up. I raised the two stitched pieces on pop dots when attaching to the white card base, and then I added a couple animal silhouette die cuts from Penny Black.

I like making my BBCB backgrounds larger than I need for my card so I can tape down the piece to prevent water warping and so I have extra pieces of the background to punch or add to the inside like this one:

I am entering the blue card in the "Frame It Out" challenge at Wags 'n Whiskers, and the Anything Goes challenge at Jo's Scrap Shack.

Funny story- when buying the rubber cement at my local Target for a whopping $1.79, I had to produce photo ID or they would not have let me buy it. They are required to do this because if I was buying large quantities, I might be making meth with it. I told the clerk it was for my addiction- crafting and making cards. And if I had fun with it, I might be back to buy some more to share with my classes. Who needs drugs and alcohol when this brings me such joy?! Although a little alcohol does pass these lips I admit:)

CAS (Clean and Simple) 4 Kids Challenge at SAS4Kids

It’s Saturday and time for another fun challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids! This time our challenge is CAS 4 Kids! Create and link any Clean and Simple card for a child, and you could win one of our great prizes.

We have three very generous sponsors for this challenge: Bugaboo is giving their winner 7 digis of their choice!  Lacy Sunshine is giving their randomly picked winner 3 digis!  And Kitchen Sink Stamp’s winner gets a $25 gift certificate! TEAM S.A.S will also be choosing their favorite cards for our top three and the winners will receive a blog badge and an opportunity to be a guest design team member on a future challenge.

My first CAS card features a sweet colored digi from Bugaboo called Cute Puppy. I simply printed him on cardstock, added a fun sentiment (coming soon at Repeat Impressions) and some colored gems, then layered on a blue card base. CAS and sweet and I think one of our kids would love this card.

My second CAS card features a sweet digi from Lacy Sunshine called Suzy Shell's Sleepy Time Baby. I paper pieced Suzy and her baby and their quilts and framed them with a circle cut out with a stitched circle die from My Creative Time. The "hello" die is from Paper Smooches and the "kiddo" is coming soon from Repeat Impressions. I raised the blue frame piece with mounting tape when I attached it to a white top folding card base.

Teacher Thank You Card

Today I am sharing a card I made with Crackerbox Palace’s awesome stamps and a fun technique with word dies.  Can you believe it is almost time for school to start? I decided to make a thank you card for a special teacher. I started with a beautiful pine tree stamp from Crackerbox Palace and stamped it three times on a piece of white cardstock. I stamped the 2nd generation of the image in between the three darker trees so the lighter ones look like they are in the distance. Then I stamped the Thank You with black ink and attached a die cut bird silhouette from Impression Obsession.  I die cut “teacher” (die from Simon Says Stamp) from the trees, raised it on a die cut white fun foam piece and put it back on the card where it was originally cut out. Here is a close up of the pine tree word:

Another NBUS Card

I played a bit more with the pile of NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) on my bed and this cute card was the result. The embossing folder I used for the card base and the front gate is another of the new ones from We R Memory Keepers from their Next Level series. The curly hello die is by Penny Black. The sweet puppy and kitty are from Art Impressions. Here is the reason I could not resist them:
The kitty and puppy have a front and a back- too cute. I finished the card with a curly sentiment from Lawn Fawn. I think this card would be perfect for one of my kids at Send a Smile 4 Kids or my grandson. (Did you see the big news announced this week at SAS4Kids? Check it out here.)

What If? Wed. Color Challenge at Repeat Impressions

The first Wednesday of each month at Repeat Impression’s blog, The House that Stamps Built, is going to be a color challenge. We give you the color inspiration, and you can make a card using those colors to possibly win a great prize of Repeat Impressions rubber! Here is the color palette chosen this month:

I took the lemon and lime colors quite literally and used them for my lemon and lime for my tequila shot. I started with an aqua card base and added three panels also of aqua which were raised with mounting tape. I cut out Repeat Impression’s lemon, lime, shaker of salt and shot of tequila from their Bottom’s Up stamp series. The perfect sentiment is also from that fun stamp series.

I am entering this card in the Anything Goes challenges at 613 Avenue Create and Through the Craft Room Door.

Playing with NBUS

I love the NBUS expression Darnell Knauss came up with- Never Before Used Schtuff- and have a pile of NBUS on my bed that I must play with before putting away. All the dies on this card are new as well as the cool embossing folder by We R Memory Keepers. Their new line of embossing folders has such great dimension taking efs to a whole new level, which is why they are called "Next Level" embossing folders. I embossed a kraft sheet of cardstock after cutting a window with a new die from Art Impressions. I sponged the window that was cut out with a distress ink and popped it back into the die opening. I attached a pretty scene on a Clear Views transparency from the back. I love how the window opens and closes! I added some vines cut with a new die from Poppy Stamps and a sympathy sentiment cut with a Cottage Cutz die.

I am entering this card into the Anything Goes challenge at 613 Avenue Create and Lil Patch of Crafty Friends.

Spread your Wings with Butterflies and Color Burst

I wanted to design a card using BB or CB (Bisters. Brushos or Color Burst colored crystals) that would show a beginner how easy it is to make a gorgeous card with them. I chose Color Burst for the background of this card because I wanted it to be as bright as possible and of the three choices, in my opinion. Color Burst is the brightest. I started with a piece of watercolor paper larger than needed for the card front so I could tape it down to prevent warping and to allow extra matching pieces for a punched butterfly and this in the inside:

The beautiful butterfly die is by Memory Box. I will be teaching this card in a workshop focusing on BB/CB and other great techniques that I and my talented BFF will be hosting. Stay tuned for more details to come.

Summer Vacation Fun with Grandma's Magic Color Crystals

My grandson visited us recently and had a blast playing with my Color Burst and Brusho Coloured Crystals. Anyone can make gorgeous backgrounds with these magical colored crystals and water. Here are the four backgrounds he made with both types of colored crystals:
When the pieces were dry, he made a card for Mom and for Dad using a new set from Stampin' Up I just had to buy because of the sentiment: "TRUTH - I love you more than grilled cheese." That statement is perfect for Nate because he really loves his grilled cheese- even had one named after him in a local restaurant! I showed Nate how to use the MISTI on his cards so even if the first time he stamped it was not perfect, he could stamp again in the exact same spot. Here he is with his cards and one of them close up:

He was very proud of the cards he made and excited to share them with Mom and Dad. I asked if he wanted to make two more with the other two backgrounds he made and he said he would share them with me to make the other two cards. So I made two cards to send to him in the mail, since he loves to get mail. He really liked the Crazy Birds from Tim Holtz, so I included one on one of the cards. Here they are:

I have another TRUTH for you and for Nate - the MISTI does not work right if you put your stamp on it upside down:) So even Grandmas are not perfect when it comes to card making. I decided to leave it just the way it is and put the truth in the inside of the card- it's OK if our cards are not perfect, he can see the truth even upside down.

I am entering Nate's card in the Kid's Summer Vacation challenge at Simon Says Stamp and in the Anything Goes challenge at Simply Papercraft.
