Tonic Double Detail Telescoping Card

It's my turn to post a project on Blog Tonic USA and here, and I am sharing a telescoping card featuring the Double Details dies and stencils and some of the new colors of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse that just came out. Have you seen the nine gorgeous new colors of Nuvo Mousse available here on the website? Oh my- they are so pretty! I used the pastel colors of Cornflower Blue, Peony Pink and Lilac Lavender on my card, but I love the brown and copper and black as well. There are three circular layers to my telescoping card, with the smallest of the circles on top as shown here:

Each circle of the telescoping card is attached with a brad to the next layer, allowing it to open and close. I die cut the top purple layer with the scalloped circle die from the Have a Beautiful Day Sew Pretty Frame set. I also used the sentiment from that set. I die cut the flowers from the Daisy Burst Double Detail set and applied Cornflower Blue and Peony Pink Nuvo Embellishment Mousse to color them. For the middle circle, I applied blue, pink and lavender embellishment mousse with a spatula through the beautiful Daisy Burst Double Detail Stencil. Each set in this Double Detail range has a stencil that matches a die. The largest pink layer of my telescoping card features the Poppy Hideway Double Detail die cut and embossed in blue and framed with a pinhole circle die. Christmas Acetate Card

I create holiday cards all year for my in home classes and also so I don't have to rush to get them done in December. I love making acetate cards even though they do not photograph well. I embossed the front of this acetate card with a snowflake embossing folder from Sizzix. I used a Lil' Inker stitched rectangle die that is A2 sized to die cut the center white piece and attached a beautiful Merry Christmas ornament die cut from Memory Box. Anything that gets glued or attached with tape to an acetate card has to be covered in the back to hide the adhesive. So I die cut another stitched rectangle from the same Lil' Inker set and embossed it with a Crafts Too embossing folder. Here are photos of the back and the side view: 

Glitter and TP - Great Combo

I have been experimenting with a new technique using toilet paper and embossing folders. If you are interested in the details on how to do it, you can check it out here in this blog post.  On this one, I put the ink on the other side of the embossing folder so the color shows up in the leaves, not the background. I tore the edges of the dried tp piece and attached it to a blue card base. I die cut Memory Box's new little floral bird out of black cardstock and attached it to sticky paper, then added white glitter. I colored the bird with markers and cut it out. I added a die cut sentiment to complete the card.

Tonic Studios Zipper Guy Card

It's my turn to post a project on Blog Tonic USA and here, and  I am sharing a card for a guy on his special day featuring the Zip and Button Die and Deboss Set from the Sew Pretty range at Tonic Studios. I knew the minute I saw the zipper and button dies I wanted to try to create a guy’s sweater vest and button down shirt and had fun creating this card from that idea. I cut a top folding navy A2 size card base. I punched a V shaped collar in the vest and attached strips of light blue creating stripes on the sweater vest. I embossed the sweater vest card with an embossing folder from Sizzix. I die cut the zipper pull out of scrap of Tonic gold mirror card and debossed the light blue zipper. Here is a close up picture of the zipper and zipper pull and the white shirt which pulls out of the “sweater vest” card base as shown here:

I cut and folded the white collar and added some die cut white buttons to button down the collar. I attached the “On Your Day” sentiment which could be celebrating Father’s Day or a birthday or any special day.

It's Almost the 4th of July!

It’s Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a 4^th of July card I made for a very special person with Crackerbox Palace stamps. Hard to believe it is almost the 4^th of July- I say it every year- where does the summer go so fast? I was playing with a new technique using toilet paper and designed this card with one of my favorite Crackerbox Palace silhouette stamps showing a patriotic parade of kids. We loved to be part of the parades in my small town where I grew up so this stamp just makes me smile. I explained this technique and shared the source where I learned it in this blog post on my blog. For this card I used an embossing folder from Darice for the top tp part and also punched some stars from the tp piece as well. I stamped CBP’s 4^th of July Parade in black on the red card base for a fun partriotic card.  

Tonic Studios Acetate Cards

**Warning- the cards are lovely in real life I promise you, but it is very hard to photograph acetate cards to show them on a blog. If you have any advice on how to photograph acetate cards, please share!**

I was reminded recently by a dear friend how lovely embossed acetate cards can be and was determined to combine thick acetate with Tonic Studios dies to make some awesome cards. I succeeded in the designing part, but not in the photography to show them off well:( But I think I did a better job on this flower embossed acetate card, so am showing it first. I used a floral embossing folder from Couture Creations to emboss the front of the A2 acetate card cut out of 10 mm thick acetate. Using thicker acetate results in better embossing and a sturdier card. I die cut Tonic Studio's From Me to You Topper Set out of aqua blue cardstock and the outer piece three times out of white cardstock. I layered one of each for the front of the card and attached with just a little hanging off and trimmed. Here are a couple views from the inside and back showing the layering and the sentiment from the Happy Birthday Pansy Topper Die Set: 

All of the layers are lined up on the acetate and for the back, I traced the inside piece and cut it out so it was slightly smaller than the white floral shape.

I love this butterfly acetate card featuring Tonic Studio's new Elegant Columns and Admiral Arches Sew Pretty butterfly dies and so have others I have shown the card to IRL. However, again it is very difficult to photograph to show you, my readers, how pretty the acetate card is. Here are other views of the card: 

Can you see the lovely detailed embossing and pin pricks of these gorgeous Tonic Studios butterfly dies cut out of Tonic gold mirror card? You can see through the front of the acetate to the inside where I die cut another Admiral Arches corner and "Cherish the Moments" from the Rectangular Frame Set of the same name.

Die-Versions Stenciled Hugs Card

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's my turn to post a card on Die-Version's blog and mine, and I am sharing this CAS Hugs card designed with Die-Versions dies. I die cut a stencil with Die-Versions Funky Octagon Background and sponged several shades of blue ink through it to create my background. Then I die cut a scalloped circle out of that background using the largest of the Nesting Flowers dies. I raised that “flower” on pop dots and attached it back in the hole that was created. I die cut and attached Die-Versions Curly Word Hugs and added some navy Nuvo Crystal Drops to complete the CAS card.

Kitty Window Joy Fold Card

Animal Magic is the theme of my favorite challenge to enter at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge and I found another animal card I designed for a magazine article but have never blogged to share with you today. This kitty looking out a window is one of my favorite stamps from Repeat Impressions and I stamped him on a pretty blue dp pieced that is folded in half and attached to the inside kraft side of another folded two sided piece of cardstock. The card base was created with Tim Holtz's Kraft-core cardstock from Core'dinations. The two folds together are known as a "joy fold" card. CAS but the pretty stamp makes this card perfect for any cat lover.

Animal Magic at Simon Says Stamp

This week the theme of my favorite challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is Animal Magic, so I went back in my photos of cards not blogged yet and found this beautiful tiger I created for a magazine article a while back on vellum techniques. I do not remember whose stamp the tiger scene is, but I do remember I stamped it with black ink on vellum and then colored from the other side with markers. The tiger itself was "colored" with a round styllus head to stretch the vellum and raise it as shown. I die cut an oval opening in the white card front and scored diagonally every inch both ways. I masked and did a little sponging in the bottom of the diamonds to create the cool background look. Now that I look at this card again, I wonder why I never blogged it before? I really like both the tiger scene and the background too.

I stamped and cut out a couple small flowers from the last Flower Power Background and Borders release and added some Tonic Nuvo black Crystal Drops to complete the card.

Masculine Faux Leather Card for Scrapy Land Guest DT

I am very happy to participate again this week as a Guest Designer at Scrapy Land Challenges which is one of my favorite challenge blogs. The theme of this challenge is Masculine and use at least one of the die brands Scrapy Land sells. Here is a list of the over 40 different brands Scrapy Land carries.

I created this masculine card using a “faux leather” technique I learned watching this video on line. I adapted the technique for card making and did my own tutorial here which you could refer to if you would like to learn how to create this “faux leather” look. The embossing folder I used is by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. The deer die cuts are by Memory Box and the sentiment is from Dee’s Distinctively.

#PRAY FOR PULSE - How can we help?

I found a video, a blog post and a Facebook group today which helped me feel a little better after the senseless tragedy in Florida this weekend. Here is a link to the blog post  on a way we card makers can help the families of the victims. In the blog post on Dana Joy's blog is a link to the Facebook page and a video she made. I am sending a bunch of cards with envelopes and stamps and thought perhaps you were wondering what you could do, so I am sharing. I called the local blood bank, but they said there has not been a nationwide call for blood to be sent. I am giving blood anyway-maybe help a baby or someone local who needs help. But I am primarily a card maker, so am happy to use my talents and passion to help in a small way. Here is a card I made recently with Tonic Studios dies and new colors of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse that will be in the bunch I send: 

Tonic Top Note Trellis Personalized Gift Box

I love my Kensington purse die from Tonic Studios, but it is small for giving gifts to special female friends. I was inspired by this lovely project with a tutorial by Ruth of the UK Tonic Studios design team to try a larger purse gift bag. I do not have the dies she used, but do have the Top Note Trellis die set and it worked beautifully for this personalized gift giving purse box. I die cut aqua blue and white alternating layers for the front and back on the gift box. I personalized the gift box with a monogram M from the A-N Duo Cap Initials Clarice die set. Here is a picture of the other side of this purse gift box: 

I cut off a butterfly from the Branwen Briar Butterfly die to decorate the center of this side. I also used that die on both sides of the inside box as shown here: 

The inside box dimensions are 5" x 11" with scoring at 3 1/2" and 7 1/2 and at 1" on both long sides. I folded all the lines and cut a small triangle out of the intersections along the sides. I applied strong two sided tape to hold the box together and attach the decorated sides to the box. I added two handles (cut 1/2" x 11) and some Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops for the final touch.

Zombie Birthday Card for a Special Grandson

My grandson's birthday is coming up and I think he will get a kick out of the zombie card I made for him. I used new stamps from Art Gone Wild and paper pieced the zombie and his pet. The punch line is in the inside of the card:

I Love You Card with Die-Versions Dies

I die cut the Oriental Screen die twice in a light and dark green and offset them slightly when attaching to a white A2 card base. I noticed that some of the pieces that fall out of the die cut background were the capital letter I, so I decided to say I Love You on my card. I used the dancing couple from Die-Version’s Trellis die for the love part. This card is for my husband and we love to dance together.

New Technique Sympathy Card

I am a member of Live Love Cards where for only $2.50 a month, I am sent at least two videos a week with new techniques and ideas. I also have access to hundreds of previously posted videos with more great ideas. I figure even if I only get one new idea a month, for that price, how can we go wrong? This was a totally new idea from Darlene's recent series of making card with common household items. Guess what we used? Toilet paper! Basically, to make this card I layered thin inexpensive toilet paper (I used 12 layers), inked up an embossing folder (by Tim Holtz) with water based ink (I found Memento and Distress Inks worked the best), spritzed both sides of the tp with water, placed it in the inked embossing folder and ran it through my die cut machine. Just look at the wonderful colored texture that results from following these easy steps:

Love it! I let the piece dry for a little while, then finished drying it with my heat gun. I die cut a stitched border out of white cardstock with my Lil' Inker stitched rectangle dies, and added a die cut sympathy sentiment using a new die from Dee's Distinctively.

Getting Inky with NBUS

In between cutting for all my upcoming classes, I stole a day to play with some of my Never Before Used Schtuff. I have been wanting to try Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals which are another watercolor powder, but they are sparkly when activated. I won a gift certificate at Simon Says Stamp and I chose a pastel set to play with. I spritzed a square piece of watercolor paper with a little water, and then sprinkled on a little of each color, then spritzed again with water. IRL there is a sparkle mixed in with the fun rainbow of colors. I die cut a Bellina Butterfly Ribbon from Poppystamps and the large Happy Birthday by Elizabeth Crafts to complete the CAS card.

Season's Greetings In Focus

I share a new holiday card every month in my in home classes and this is the one we are making this month. It features a Focus Stamp from Stamplistic that is stamped several times on Christmas colored cardstock and layered with mounting tape for great dimension. I added some gold Nuvo Crystal Drops and a gold gem for the necessary bling. The "Season's Greetings" stamp is by Tim Holtz.

I started my card by stamping the new Flower Power Background stamp (found here on the RI website) with orange ink on orange cardstock for a tone on tone look. Then I stamped it again on white cardstock , then stamped the lovely new Wavy Circle Frame and cut it out. I colored the flowers in the highlighted Wavy Circle with markers and attached it back in the exact spot on the card front. I layered that piece on black and then on a white A2 card front. These new oval and round frames are perfect for adding a sentiment or highlighting images on your cards! Take a look at the inside of my card where I stamped with the Wavy Oval and Dotted Oval to highlight the "Forever Friends" sentiment from Repeat Impressions.

I picked a digital stamp from Sami Stamps called "My Free Time" to make a card for a teenage girl. I started with an orange polka-dotted cardstock for the card base and also die cut "Be-you-tiful" from Essentials by Ellen and cut a few strips for the side of the card. I paper pieced our beautiful reading girl's outfit and book and colored the rest with my new markers from Tonic Studios.

Remember your bid includes shipping as well as the card/or project. 100% of the money your bid will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I have popped in pictures of my card and purse along with all the details of how to bid and raise money for this great cause. I used a lovely Skipping Stone Designs stamp set called Birthday Purses to make my card. In keeping with the “purse” theme, I also designed a matching little pink purse using the Kensington Purse Die from Tonic Studios. I also used pink glitter and white embossing powder, Pure Platinum Embellishment Mousse and Sherbert Shimmer Glitter Drops, all by Nuvo for Tonic Studios on my purse and card.

We all know at least one special woman who had to fight breast cancer. I am dedicating this blog post to my sister and several close friends who are breast cancer survivors. I hope someday we do not need to raise money to find a cure for breast cancer, but right now we still need to fight. I hope you find a card or project (or more) along the seven day blog hop you like and will place a bid to maybe win it. Many Thanks for my Guest DT Gig at Scrapy Land

I am very happy to participate again this week as a Guest Designer at Scrapy Land Challenges which is one of my favorite challenge blogs. The theme of this challenge is Anything Goes as long as you use at least one of the die brands Scrapy Land sells. Here is a list of the over 40 different brands Scrapy Land carries.

I designed this pretty thank you shaker card with a new Many Thanks Topper die from X-Cuts. I die cut the Thanks Topper out of a subtle designer paper and rounded the bottom edges of that piece and the green square card base. I applied two layers of thin mounting tape around the center of the die cut after attaching a layer of acetate. I dumped a bunch of beads and sequins in the shaker part and attached it to the card base. I attached a colorful die cut butterfly and added a few more sequins to the front to complete the card.
