Trying Something New and Prize Package You Could Win

I tried something new today- I did my first Facebook Live and showed how to make this Valentine version of the Standing Pop Up fun fold. There were no production disasters but the engagement was not there as I hoped. But you can watch it later now on my Facebook page here and I hope you will and then comment or ask a question. If you are not already a Follower, please follow the new Karen's Kreative Kards business Facebook page and watch the brief video showing how I made this card:

I debossed the red iridescent cardstock (from Tonic Studios) with a new A2 Stitched Coverplate die from Kat Scrappiness. The layered heart die is from Birch Press Designs, the sentiment die is from Lawn Fawn and the torn heart die is from Dies...To Die For.

I appreciate anyone who takes the time to watch the FB Live video even if after it was live. I decided to offer a prize to draw attention to my first one and it is a package of dies valued at $100:

I am extending the time frame to comment on the FB Live video to include next week's at 11:00 a.m. CST on Thursday January 13, 2022 and that day until midnight CST. You can comment on each of the two FB Lives for two chances at winning this prize (USA mailing addresses only please.) Please share this opportunity to see cards made Live and maybe win the prize with your cardmaking friends and thanks for your support!

Video - Die Cut Crazy Video Series: Snowy Winter Wishes Standing Pop Up Card, NEW Facebook Live and Huge Prize to Win!

I love to find and try new fun folds and of course I also love to create cards with dies from my favorite companies and my first video of the new year combines those two loves. I found a tutorial by Christy Falk on Splitcoaststampers here that showed how to make a Standing Pop Up Box card. Here is my snowy version of that card:

As I show in the video the fun fold is easy to make and stands up for display:

Most of the dies are from Dies...To Die For at Shopscrapbook101.com including the icicles, ice skates and the dies on the back of the card:

The "warm winter wishes" is from Cutplorations and the debossed snowflake die on the white glitter cardstock is from Memory Box. I also show in the video how easy it is to make a realistic looking snowbank using Aleen's Glitter Snow also from ShopScrapbook101.com.

It is best of course to watch the new video to see how to put the card together,  but here is a template you can refer to for sizes, etc. I adjusted the size of the second smaller piece because I wanted more room for my icicles. When you try a new fun fold, I suggest you create a sample card with paper you don't care about to see how to put it together and then keep in mind that with some experimentation, any or all of the sizes can be adjusted to make the card your own.

***I am going to be doing Facebook Lives in the new year once a week and in my first one on Wednesday January 5 at about 11:00 you can see me make a Valentine Standing Pop Up card and comment for a chance to win a prize package full of dies from my favorite companies valued at $100!!! Watch live and comment or ask a question OR watch later (before midnight January 7, 2021) and leave a comment for a chance to win the card I make and the prize package of dies. (USA mailing address is required.) PLEASE SHARE this new adventure for me with crafty friends and maybe you or one of your friends could win!

Three More Cards Made With Nuvo Shimmer Watercolor Powders From My Newest Video

As I show in the new video, it is very easy to create colorful backgrounds and pieces for die cutting by simply sprinking on Nuvo Shimmer Powders onto watercolor paper and spritzing with water. The colors are gorgeous and there is also mica in the powders so there is a pretty shimmer to them. After the piece was dry, I cut out Sue Wilson's Eternal Heart Tree, layered it on white and attached to the pink cardbase. "Sending Hugs" is also a die from Sue Wilson and Creative Expressions.

We don't have to use watercolor paper when adding Nuvo Shimmer Powders to a background. On this card I tried them on a suede paper and added masculine dies from a die set called Birthday Brewing from Sue Wilson for a beer loving guy I know.

One more fun technique I share in the new video is to create a resist with a background stamp embossed on a piece of watercolor paper with white embossing powder. I chose a stamp from Wendy Vecchi called Just Say It and then sprinkled on Violet Brocade, Meteorite Show and Solar Flare Nuvo Shimmer Powders. The embossed words resisted the powders and this card front was the result.

Video - Cardmaking Tips and Techniques With Nuvo Shimmer Powders

I haven't played with my Nuvo Shimmer Watercolor Powders in awhile and I share many cards and techniques using them in my newest video here. My favorite of the techniques I share is Nuvo watercolor powders on tissue paper which is wrinkled and made to sparkle with glitter embossing powder. I show how to make this card using that technique in the new video:

As I show in the video, I chose Violet Brocade, Cherry Bomb and a little Blue Blitz Nuvo Shimmer Powders on tissue paper for this tri-fold card. The process requires some patience as the tissue paper needs to dry thoroughly before it is attached to cardstock and then embossed with Nuvo Sparkle Embossing Powder. The butterfly die is from Sizzix. Here is a picture of this card opening to show the tri-fold:

Here is another card I made with that technique this time on a green tissue paper so it is a little darker than the one above:

The butterfly was made with Cosmic Shimmer Aurora Flakes. Another of my favorite techniques with Nuvo Shimmer Powders that I share in the new video is to apply them on glossy paper and after spritzing with water, I crinkled up a piece of cling wrap over it. Here is a card I made with that fun look:

Isn't that background neat? I diecut Sue Wilson's Papillion Silhouette out of it and put it on a slimline card. The sentiment is also from Sue Wilson and Creative Expressions.

I had great fun designing these cards and sharing the many techniques in my new video here. I hope the cards and video will encourage you to try some of the techniques and products featured.
