Anything Goes at TTCRD!

It’s Tuesday and time for another Through the Craft Room Door challenge. As always the theme is my favorite, Anything Goes! There is a new challenge every Tuesday at TTCRD. For this challenge, I simply printed and cut out colored images from several digital files by Decosse’s Dynamite Doodles and made my card. So easy and beautiful with these lovely images.

Peeps Easter Card

I think Easter peeps are so cute- don't like to eat them, but just like how they remind me of Easter baskets and sweet treats. When I saw a set of super cute peeps sentiments and a bunny die from My Creative Time I just had to buy it. I remembered how I had some yellow and pink flock hiding in my craft room from years ago, I thought it could be perfect for the peeps. But I also remembered how difficult it used to be to attach the flock with liquid glue evenly so it looked nice. Then I had a brilliant idea- cut the peeps out of two sided sticky paper, then remove the covering and the flock stuck perfectly. I attached a colorful Easter dp to the front of a white card and then I created a framed window to the inside of the card using a Lawn Fawn stitched die and a Nesties rectangular die. The sweet peeps were attached to the inside of the card with the pink one raised with pop dots. I stamped Happy Easter and cut it out with a speech bubble die also from My Creative Time. Under my favorite peep, I stamped "To my best Peep". Too cute!

Cracked Egg Card for a Friend

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a fun card I made with some great stamps from Crackerbox Palace. I found this card on Pinterest, but there were no directions on how to make the egg open and close. I figured out how to use Stampin’ Up’s word window punch and a brad through the layers to open and close this cute egg card. I cut the outside yellow patterned egg with a large Nestabilities oval die and the smaller stitched ovals with dies from My Creative Time. I made an Easter card with this idea, but Crackerbox Palace’s “slightly cracked” stamps are perfect for this cracked egg card for a friend. This is what the card looks like closed:

I stamped and paper pieced the cheery bluebird, colored the flowers with gel pens and attached with pop dots to one side of the cracked egg.

Look what I discovered recently!

Do you ever get so excited about a crafting idea or technique you can't sleep at night because all these card ideas are swirling around in your head? Call me crazy, but that happens to me. I recently joined a Facebook group that shares ideas and encourages the use of Bisters, Brushos, and Color Burst powders. (If you are interested in joining, let me know via the contact feature at the side of the blog.) I have learned so much already and one of the videos shared showed how to use crumpled cling wrap and B/B or CB on glossy paper. I have had so much fun playing with several ways to do this technique and this is the first card I completed with Bister powders. I am finding the Bisters work better than the Brushos for the first way I tried to do this technique. I sprinkled black, red and yellow Bister powders onto a glossy piece, spritzed with Pearl Glimmer Mist, and applied a scrunched up piece of cling wrap. The hardest part of this technique is waiting until the piece dries. It takes a very long time. Even after leaving overnight, when the cling wrap is removed, the piece is still damp and has to be dried with a heat gun. But the marks from the cling wrap are very visible. When I tried this with Brusho Colour Crystals, the cling wrap marks are much more subtle, but still lovely. I will share more cards with both soon. I cut a sentiment die piece with a brand new die from Sizzix called Ornate Labels and stamped Thinking of You from Amuse. I cut a Memory Box flying goose originally in dark brown, but decided that was too dark for the background. So I cut another one in kraft, embossed it with an embossing folder from C Gull, and attached so the brown shadow shows. I added some brown pearls to complete the card.

Sharing a Happy Class Card

I took an Online Card Class last week called Stretch Your Dies and one of my favorite cards from the class was by Laura Bassen. The deadline for entering our cards in the galleries is coming soon, and I wanted to try her overlapping shading ideas using curved border dies. I pulled out a curved border die from Pretty Pink Posh and created a mask with a piece of acetate. I masked off the edges of a white card front with temporary tape. Then I sponged on a series of pastel dye inks overlapping the colors. I am not sure I like the combo of orange and green at the bottom and I did get an extra line of purple, so if I try this again, I will try to correct those imperfections. I am loving a new set of stamps and matching dies I just got from My Creative Time. I die cut the Happy twice in white and glued on following the curved lines with part of the die off the colored section. I stamped the rest of the sentiment to complete the CAS happy card.

What If? Wed. Sketch Challenge at Repeat Impressions

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's time for another fun sketch challenge at The House that Stamps Built and we are challenging you to make a card using the sketch below and link it up for a chance at some great Repeat Impressions rubber! I am in the mood for sunshine and warmth, so followed the sketch and created a “Life’s A Beach” monochromatic card. I stamped some conch shells in two shades of blue and cut them out. I stamped some palm trees and sponged on some blue skies. Life’s A Beach was cut out with an oval Nestabilities die and attached with a pop dot over a blue ribbon.

Here is the sketch for you to follow when you create a card for our challenge. You do not need to use Repeat Impressions stamps to enter our challenges, but you get an extra chance to win if you do!

Happy Birthday to Wendy of Repeat Impressions!

When Wendy Wyman was just 4 years old, she announced that she was going to be an artist when she grew up.  Many years, and many sketchbooks later, she had earned a BFA in Graphic Design. For the next 11 years found Wendy worked in advertising, freelancing, and ran a printing company. And then it happened...Wendy's mom became a stamping addict, and the rest was history!  It was Wendy's mom's encouragement that led her to turn her illustrations into fine art rubber stamps.

Wendy's husband, Bill, was also looking for a career change, and jumped at the idea of learning a new skill. And so....in 1996, Wendy Wyman, and her husband Bill Welsh established Repeat Impressions Stamps.  Each stamp is designed by Wendy, and manufactured by Bill in their home workshop!

Today, the Rock Stars design team for Repeat Impressions, have joined together for a special hop for Wendy's Birthday!

We are hoping Wendy loves ATCs, so we've changed things up - instead of cards, we all created ATCs for Wendy. They were mailed to Cheri, one of our Rock Stars, who has created a wonderful album for them, and sent them on to Wendy. (ATCs are Artist Trading Cards sized to 2.5 by 3.5 inches.)

Wendy, you are one of the sweetest, and most generous people we know. As a 'boss', rarely do we find ourselves on a team that is more professionally run, or more organized!  You are so understanding of our personal issues, and it's a joy to work with you and your products!

We want to wish you a very Happy Birthday!

We look up to, admire and respect you.

May your day today be filled with love and laughter!

NBUS Butterfly Cards

I have been playing with a brand new butterfly die from Pete Hughes for Sizzix, a new technique and some new ideas from an Online Card Class I am taking on getting more from our dies. The beautiful butterfly was cut out of a piece of glossy cardstock with blue, yellow and green Brusho Crystal Colours spritzed with glimmer mist. I tried a new technique after that on the piece, but it did not work. But I still liked the glossy piece and cut two butterflies out of it. I was going to place one on top of the inlaid butterfly on this card, but it was too pretty to cover up, so I ended up with two cards. I die cut the beautiful butterfly from the center of the aqua blue and lime green diagonal cut card front and inlaid the butterfly in the open butterfly space. I embossed soaring butterflies (Craft Concepts), added some mini butterflies punched out of the glossy colored cardstock with a brand new butterfly punch from Fiskars. I added the word Soar die cut with a new alphabet die from Die-Versions.

So after the first card was done I had the two diagonal pieces left, a half green and half aqua butterfly and a die cut butterfly out of the glossy Brusho piece to make another card with.  I attached the duo-colored butterfly along the diagonal color change center with the aqua blue over the lime green and the lime green over the blue. Then I attached the glossy butterfly with glue dots on the body only so the wings are raised and you can see the duo colored butterfly underneath. I added some punched butterflies and some blue and green gems to complete this card.

Pastel Colors 4 Kids Challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids

It’s Saturday and time for another fun challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids! This time our challenge is Pastel Colors 4 Kids! Create and link any pastel colored card for a child and you could win one of our great prizes.

My first card above features a very sweet girl from All Dressed Up Stamps. I printed her on a white cardbase and again on several dp pieces and cream cardstock, then paper pieced her completely. I attached two blue dp panels with pop dots to raise and the Happy Birthday (Memory Box) banner across the inside piece. I used large gems to cover up the glue dots used to attach the vellum banner.

My second pastel card features a sweet digi from MilkCoffee called Charlotte and the Bunny Love Balloon which I printed on the front of a white cardbase. Then I cut around the side of the printed digi and paper pieced her in pastel dps. I attached another pink dp in the inside of the card and attached a cheery "hello" from Paper Smooches.

Interactive LOL Accident Card from Crackerbox Palace

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a funny card I made with some great stamps from Crackerbox Palace. I think this card would put a smile on the face of a friend or relative after they had an accident or injury. I found this tutorial on how to make an interactive card that pulls out to reveal a hidden message. It is not hard to make, but rather than go into all the details in this blogpost, click on the link if you want to know how to make a card like this.

Did you know many of Crackerbox Palace’s stamps can be purchased as digital stamps if you prefer that form over cling foam, wood or rubber? I usually choose cling foam mounted and I had the cute puppy on cling, but did not have the other two sentiment stamps. Getting digital stamps allows you to change the size of the stamp and I printed the “Heard you had an accident” on a piece of plaid dp larger than the original size.

The pull tab pulls out to reveal the lol punch line which was printed smaller than the original stamp. I stamped the cute puppy twice on kraft paper, cut out the head and the whole dog, and attached the head with pop dots for dimension. He was attached to the pull tab and moves to reveal the funny message.

Repeat Impression's Photo Inspiration Challenge

On the third Wednesday of every month at Repeat Impression’s blog, The House that Stamps Built, the challenge is going to be an Inspiration Photo challenge. I find it fascinating to see each stamper’s take on a card based on the same inspiration photo. This is this month’s Inspiration Photo:

Will you be inspired by the colors or the objects or shapes in the photo? It is up to you to pick out what inspires you and make a card, then enter it for a chance to win some great Repeat Impressions rubber. I was inspired by the vase, the flowers and the beautiful spring colors from the inspiration photo. I started with a card base cut with a stitched scalloped oval die from My Creative Time which I sponged with pink ink. The green oval was also cut out with a stitched die from MCT, as was the green base for the vase. I stamped the lovely bouquet of tulips from Repeat Impressions on the green oval as well as on pink and dotted dp. I colored the tulip greens and paper pieced the pink tulips and the vase.

Anything Goes Challenge at TTCRD

For this challenge, I created a card featuring a beautiful butterfly digi from Anne’s Cards for U. I placed the butterfly once on a white card front, then flipped it and made it smaller before printing it. Then I printed them again on blue and yellow patterned paper, cut them out and paper pieced to the white piece. I die cut “friends” from Tim Holtz for Sizzix and attached. I layered a glittery piece of acetate over the front and attached to a black card base. I added a small butterfly (Martha Stewart punch) with a gem to complete the card. Shake It - You Know You Wanna!

I saw the "shake it" set of stamps from Studio Calico and knew I had to buy it! So cute for shaker cards! I cut a flower out of the front of this card with a Spellbinders die and used the larger flower die to create the pink flower. I embossed the flower with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I stamped "shake it" in the center of the white card base, stamped the "you know" sentiment and banner on pink paper and cut it out. I attached acetate on the back of the flower opening and used two layers of mounting tape to create the shaker window. Then I dumped a bunch of flower sequins and other plastic flowers inside the shaker window. I attached a couple other pink flowers to complete the card front. Camera Shaped Card for Classes

I have had this card pinned forever with the intent to try to make one of my own and I finally had the time. I love how it turned out and hope my students do too! I used the Envelope Punch Board from WeR Memory Keepers to create the tab at the top. I folded the grey card up and attached the embossed black front (SU embossing folder) with circles and acetate window cut with several sizes of Nestabilities dies. The "oh snap" and speech bubble die is from My Creative Time. I added a red gem sticker and the ribbon handle to complete the camera front. This is what the inside looks like:

Wax Paper Resist Birthday Card

I learned how to do wax paper resist on glossy paper in the newest issue of Through the Craft Room Door and am thrilled with how this card turned out. I will be sharing it in the monthly classes I teach in my home. The embossing folder I used for the technique is from Cuttlebug and is called Roses by Anna Griffin. I sponged on red Distress ink and attached a Memory Box butterfly. The birthday sentiment die is also from Memory Box and I put white behind the word openings before attaching to the card.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Crackerbox Palace!

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing another St. Patrick’s Day card made with stamps from Crackerbox Palace. To make this card, I started with a great sketch shared at my local stamp club. Crackerbox Palace has bunches of fun clover stamps and I stamped and cut several in different sizes out. I attached a shiny leaf border sticker down the side of a green card front and stamped some small shamrocks. I cut a curved border piece with a die cut from Spellbinders and stamped a beautiful Irish saying and another shamrock. Then I layered the cut out shamrocks along the side of the front.

On the inside of the card, I stamped Happy St. Patrick’s Day and finished the lovely Irish blessing.

My Designer's Choice Challenge- Punches and/or Dies with Stamps

It’s another Designer’s Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression’s blog. It is my turn and I have challenged my team and you to create a card using punches and/or die cuts with stamps. I find myself designing with die cuts and punches all the time now and when you combine them with great stamps, you have the best of both worlds. I loved this Easter card I found on Pinterest and decided to CASE it for this challenge. I started with an oval stitched die from My Creative Time cut in the center of a white piece of cardstock. I die cut another oval in a piece of acetate and used that to sponge the pastel colors in the egg onto the white card base. I stamped the “beauty of springtime” sentiment from Repeat Impressions in the center of the pastel colors and attached the front piece with mounting tape to raise it. I die cut a couple pastel bows (Clearly Besotted) and added a gem to complete the Easter card.

Playing with Brushos and Goosebumps and NBUS

I am in between deadlines for publications and design teams which means I have time to play which makes me very happy. I also have a pile of NBUS (never before used schtuff) which is mostly dies and playing with new dies makes me very happy too:) I saw some cards using these head phone dies from My Favorite Things and the matching stamp set and I just had to get them. Perfect for teenagers, right?

I purchased Goosebumps spray a while back after seeing some cool cards my dt buddy Deonna made. She used it with Bisters as a resist so I thought I would try some backgrounds with my Brusho Crystal Colors and the Goosebumps. I sprayed the Goosebumps on watercolor paper but admit I had a hard time controlling where the spray went. I thought I got too much on the piece, but went ahead and added Brushos and spritzed this card is the result. The MFT "You Rock" was stamped on a Spellbinders flag label die cut piece.

The Brusho colors I chose were black, brown and grey- which are fun to use but are not black, brown and grey...They are a wild assortment of blues, oranges and other colors. I thought I would try one just dotting the Goosebumps on with the nozzle piece, but that didn't really work. BUT I have found that no matter what you do with Brushos and Bisters, the result is pretty cool and there is no need to throw it away. Here is my second card playing with Brushos and Goosebumps:

See what I mean about these cool Brusho colors? The MFT headphones get cut out twice (grey and black) so I used the second pair for this card. I also had a set of My Creative Time speech bubbles dies in my NBUS pile so I used one of them with another fun saying from My Favorite Things.

Celebrate Card in Kraft and Cream

I was so inspired by this card I found on Pinterest  not only to make this card but to buy the curved borders die set from Spellbinders. Just had to have it! One of my favorite color combos is kraft and cream so that is another reason I love this card. I embossed the kraft card base with my favorite embossing folder- Swiss Dots from Cuttlebug. Then I cut the curvy border using three of the dies on a cream piece. I die cut the Memory Box butterflies out of kraft and cream and added a "celebrate" cut with a Penny Black die cut out of cream cardstock. Another class card ready to be shared.

My first card above features fun Easter stamps from Crackerbox Palace. The Easter egg with feet just makes me smile, and I hope that happens when one of our kids gets this card. I stamped the egg on a white oval piece cut out with a Nestabilities die. I paper pieced the egg with some colorful dp and colored the legs. I filled up the white space around the egg with bright dots of Copic color. Then I layered it onto a pink scalloped oval (also Nestabilities.) The yellow cardbase was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.The fun sentiment was stamped, cut out with another Spellbinders die and sponged pink while still in the die.

My second card is a sweet shaped bunny from The Cutting Cafe'. I simply cut out the bunny shaped card, the feet, ears, nose and front white piece. Then I added a face, heart and ribbon to complete the cute card.

St. Patrick's Day Fun Fold Card

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a St. Patrick’s Day fun fold card made with stamps from Crackerbox Palace. To make this card, I started with a piece of spring green paper 12” x 5 ½” and scored at 2, 4 , 8 and 10 inches. Fold mountain, valley, valley, mountain resulting in a 4 x 5/12 card. I have seen this card fold used with punched owls and other animals- the key is to attach two stamped or punched figures to the top fold on both sides and one to the center of the bottom fold. I stamped two of Crackerbox Palace’s leprechauns, cut out and attached to two stitched ovals. I attached them with adhesive on the top half only to the sides of the top folded half. Then I stamped CBP’s leprechaun hat, cut out, attached to a stitched oval and put that in the center of the bottom half. The stitched oval dies are from My Creative Time. I stamped the curved sentiment and a couple more shamrocks on the front. 

On the inside of the folded card, I stamped another shamrock and a lovely Irish blessing. I don’t usually make St. Patrick’s Day cards, but these stamps from Crackerbox Palace are just too fun to resist. I will share another St Pat’s card next Friday.
