Guest DT On The November Karen Burniston Designer Snow Challenge

I have been a huge fan of Karen Burniston's dies for years especially her pop up dies and so I was thrilled when Karen asked me to join her design team as a guest dt member for the November Designer's Challenge. The theme this month is SNOW and I decided to use the many snowflakes I own from many KB die sets to make a stencil for the front of this card. Here is a picture to show how easy it is to make a stencil with any set of small shape dies:

I started with a piece of navy cardstock 10 1/2" x 5 1/4" folded in half for the square card base. I die cut a navy flap using the Flap and Closure die set from Karen Burniston, and then cut white layers for the flap and card front. On those layers I simply brushed Tumbled Glass Distress Ink through the stencil I made out of thick cardstock with many small  KB snowflake dies. The sentiment was created with the Mini Alpha & Number Die Set and the Love You die (also from Karen Burniston.) Of course, as usual the best part of a card made with Karen's dies is on the inside when the card is opened:

Isn't my pop up snowman cute? Here is a closer look:

I used my Mini and Bitty Ball Pop Up sets to make a white snowman, and then I used the brand new Snowman Add-ons Die Set to dress him up perfectly. Since I had a pile of snowflakes cut from my stencil I added many of them to decorate the inside of this card. I also used the Oval Crosshatch die to cut a place to write a personal note and a Crosshatch Circle to attach my snowman with a brad through the bottom. He will spin if wanted because of that brad attachment. Here is a mini movie of this card to show the pop up movement of the snowman:

(If you are a subscriber and reading this in your email, the mini movies in my blogposts for some reason don't show up:( You can simply click on the title of the blogpost to go to my blog where you can see it. And THANKS for being one of my loyal subscribers!)

I had great fun making this card and want to thank Karen Burniston and her design team for allowing me to join in this challenge. Check out Karen's blog her tomorrow to see all the SNOW cards she and her talented team are sharing today and tomorrow.

Guest Designer at Crop Stop To Finish Revisiting Embossing Folders Week

I am honored today to be the guest designer at the Crop Stop blog. I had so much fun designing with the embossing folders and specialty paper I purchased at Crop Stop that I made almost a dozen cards and featured them all in my newest video here. I find I neglect my embossing folders, but they are a great way to add unique texture to any card. The card above features the Tarnished Foil technique which I show how to do in the video.

This card features another pretty embossing folder and several kinds of paper I purchased at Crop Stop. For all the details and the links to the products used, hop over to the Crop Stop blog here.

Wine Glass Shaker Cards with Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blends

I love making shaker cards especially if I have great sequin mixes to fill the shakers with like the new April release of Sparkle Blends from Doodle Paper Playground available here. I created this wine lover's shaker card using a wine glass die from My Creative Time and a fun set of stamps from My Favorite Things called Uncorked. Then I filled the wine glass shaker on the right with the Breakfast at Tiffys Sparkle Blend and the other with Flaming Sunset. Here is a picture of the shakers "all shook up" and the inside of the card:

Isn't that set of stamps from My Favorite Things just perfect for any wine lover? The gorgeous papers on the front and also used for the wine glasses in the center are from Tonic Studios Craft Perfect line of handmade papers

Swimming By to Say Hi Shaker Card

When I saw the Ocean View Sparkle Blend mix of sequins and cute little fish from Doodles Paper Playground, I knew I wanted to make an aquarium shaker card with them and this is the result. I die cut the card front aquarium using some Cutplorations stitched rectangle dies and the fish using dies from Penny Black and Impression Obsession. I stamped the cute stamp from Joy's Life on a light blue dp sheet and glued down the die cut fish before creating the shaker with the fun Ocean View DPP mix. Here are a couple more views of the card:

The cute stamp on the inside is also from Joy's Life and I attached a few more IO fish. These shaker cards are so fun to make and I hope you try some with these great sequin mixes from Doodles Paper Playground!

Celebrating with Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blends!

I am continuing to have fun as a guest designer diva at Doodles Paper Playground designing with their Sparkle Blends which are packages of fun sequin and bead mixes sold exclusively here at White Rose Crafts LLC.

I used a My Favorite Things Balloon Shaker Die set and Balloon Pouch to make the fun balloon on this card along with a pretty DPP Sparkle Blend mix called "Orange You Glad". I die cut a "celebrate" die from Penny Black and sponged some orange ink on just half of it and attached some confetti orange pieces too.

On the inside of the card I stamped a fun sentiment from Gina K Designs and added a couple more cake pieces.

"Shake It! You Know You Wanna" with Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blends and Therm O Web

Today I am honored to be a Doodles Paper Playground Guest Designer Diva on their blog and here on mine. I love making shaker cards and the new sequin mixes released this month and available here at White Rose Crafts LLC totally inspired me! Take a look at the Ocean View Sparkle Blend I used in this shaker card:

Here is the description of this Ocean View blend:

“I don’t know about you, but I love a pretty water themed card or layout & we wanted to create a blend that evokes those ever changing colors. This vivid combination of cup sequins, round confetti, faceted crystals and micro beads in cobalt, aqua, teal and just a touch of light blue was just the look we were going for. We added a sprinkling of dolphin shaped confetti in a variety of colors to complete the effect.”

I am saving the cute dolphins for water themed card I will make later. I went with monochromatic blues and punny “shake it” – you know you wanna” stamps from Sudio Calico for this shaker card. I am also using a brand new product from Therm O Web called Clear Designer Toner Sheets which are acetate sheets with patterns of toner on them that can be run through a hot laminator with any foil you choose so our shaker acetate fronts have a pretty pattern on them. I ran the Doodles Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheet through my hot laminator with a piece of Brilliant Blue Fancy Foil, then die cut the clear acetate shaker front. I laid the leftover foil on a Deco Foil Toner Sheet and ran it through the laminator again, then cut the stitched circles using a die set from Lil’ Inker. To see these patterned acetate sheets and these techniques in action, check out my video here.

Here is a picture of the sequin mix “all shook up”. I created a well with two layers of mounting tape, dumped in the Ocean View sequin mix and sealed it with a white circle on which I stamped “shake it”. I continued the theme on the inside of the card with more acetate circles and a celebration sentiment from Gina K Designs:

I had fun designing this shaker card and encourage you to check out the many Doodle Paper Playground  Sparkle Blends available exclusively at White Rose Crafts LLC. Shake it- you know you wanna!

Minions and Cupcakes All Shook Up for Doodles Paper Playground!

I am very happy to share that I have been chosen as a guest Doodles Paper Playground Designer Diva for the month of February! I received and was able to design with each of the five February releases of the sequin mixes from Doodles Paper Playground sold exclusively at White Rose Crafts LLC here.

I love to make shaker cards with unique and fun sequin mixes and I chose the bright Crown Jewels mix to make this Minion Cupcake Shaker card. Here is the description and a picture of this Sparkle Blend Crown Jewels mix:
"Jewel tones have been on trend for awhile, and this year is no different. This bold combination of ultraviolet, teal, ruby red, hunter green, coppery orange & gold is sure to fit the bill with its variety of bright metallic cup sequins, assorted sized star confetti, sparkly faceted crystals & prismatic giant glitter in both hexagon and diamond shapes. You can’t go wrong with this striking blend."

To make my minion cupcake shaker card I first cut the cupcake opening with dies from Karen Burniston's Cupcake Pop-Up Die Set. I attached acetate behind the cupcake window and stamped the fun cupcake sentiment using a new stamp from So Suzy Stamps. I stamped confetti from a new Gina K Designs/Therm O Web stamp set called Time to Celebrate. Stuart (the minion) with Cupcake is also from So Suzy Stamps and I stamped and paper pieced him before attaching him with mounting tape to raise. I picked out some of the colorful stars in the Crown Jewels mix to attach to the cardfront.

I attached 2 layers of mounting tape around the cupcake opening and dumped some of the colorful Crown Jewels Sparkle Blend mix into the well before sealing it up with a piece of white cardstock. Then I layered the shaker piece onto a blue cardfront. Here is a look at the card "all shook up" and the inside of the card with another fun sentiment from So Suzy Stamps:

Masculine Faux Leather Card for Scrapy Land Guest DT

I am very happy to participate again this week as a Guest Designer at Scrapy Land Challenges which is one of my favorite challenge blogs. The theme of this challenge is Masculine and use at least one of the die brands Scrapy Land sells. Here is a list of the over 40 different brands Scrapy Land carries.

I created this masculine card using a “faux leather” technique I learned watching this video on line. I adapted the technique for card making and did my own tutorial here which you could refer to if you would like to learn how to create this “faux leather” look. The embossing folder I used is by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. The deer die cuts are by Memory Box and the sentiment is from Dee’s Distinctively.

Why don’t you pull out your favorite dies and create a guy card for this challenge? The prize is a $15 Scrapy Land gift certificate and you know you can find something great you want there!

This is my last blog post as a guest dt member at Scrapy Land, so I want to say thanks to the whole Scrapy Land team for this fun experience!

Many Thanks for my Guest DT Gig at Scrapy Land

I am very happy to participate again this week as a Guest Designer at Scrapy Land Challenges which is one of my favorite challenge blogs. The theme of this challenge is Anything Goes as long as you use at least one of the die brands Scrapy Land sells. Here is a list of the over 40 different brands Scrapy Land carries.

I designed this pretty thank you shaker card with a new Many Thanks Topper die from X-Cuts. I die cut the Thanks Topper out of a subtle designer paper and rounded the bottom edges of that piece and the green square card base. I applied two layers of thin mounting tape around the center of the die cut after attaching a layer of acetate. I dumped a bunch of beads and sequins in the shaker part and attached it to the card base. I attached a colorful die cut butterfly and added a few more sequins to the front to complete the card. Here is a look at the card “all shook up”:

Believing in So Suzy Stamps!

I am very excited today to be a guest dt member at the So Suzy Stamps blog!  I discovered So Suzy Stamps when my friend Vicky from Crackerbox Palace recommended I check them out and I am so glad I did! After I received my first order of SSS high quality rubber cling stamps, I was asked by Suzy to be a guest dt member and I was thrilled to accept.

I chose to design with Suzy's Moon Fairy and Believe stamps. To make the card above, I heat embossed both stamps with black embossing powder on watercolor paper. Then I sprinkled yellow and turquoise Brusho Colour Crystals on the watercolor paper and spritzed with water. The water activates the color crystals and the colorful background is the result. I cut the piece to 5" x 3 3/4" and layered on a yellow piece and then onto a black A2 card base. I added a couple punched stars (Tonic punch) to complete the card.

I was having way to much fun with So Suzy's beautiful stamps to stop at just one card! I masked off 4 edges of a white card front with temporary tape and sponged several shades of blue Distress Ink in the center rectangle. After I removed the temporary tape, I simply stamped the Moon Fairy and Believe with black Archival Ink from Ranger, added a couple sequins and layered onto a black card base.

Here is a link to a few more cards I have designed with So Suzy Stamps. I highly recommend you go to the So Suzy Stamps website and check out her whole line of stamps and other products.

Guest DT at Tammy's Scrapin' Corner!

Today I get to be the Guest Design Team Member at Tammy's Scrapin' Corner and I just love the image I received to design with from their sponsor A Day For Daisies! It is called Pumpkins and Butterflies and it is so sweet! I paper pieced her outfit, pumpkin and butterflies.  I had seen a frame made with butterflies on Pinterest so I decided to try one with fall colored butterflies and to be honest, am thrilled with how it turned out! The butterfly punch is from Martha Stewart and I added liquid pearls to each butterfly in the circular frame.

I am entering this card in the Fall or Halloween Colors challenge at  A Day for Daisies.

Stamping smiles, Karen
