Two More Cards for Exceptional Embossing Techniques Class

I have finished the last two cards for the August 26th and 27th classes at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids . The one above features the Deep Impressions technique with some perfect stamps from Crackerbox Palace. The second card featuring my own Metallic Camo technique has some of my favorite stamps and dies from Tonic Studios:

The close ups of each of these cards show the wonderful texture each of these techniques result in. I hope if you are local you can join me for these classes late in August. Call 715-424-1343 to reserve your spot.

Celebrating Graduation with Die-Versions Dies

Hope you are having a great Memorial Day! It's my turn to post a card on Die-Version's blog and mine, and I am sharing this school colors graduation card featuring the Grads Celebrations Whispers dies found here on the Die-Version’s New Release Page.  I love to use the school colors from the grad’s school when I make a graduation card. I die cut the celebrating grads out of purple and layered on a gold card front with the words Celebrate cut out with another Die-Versions die. Then I just attached that piece to a purple card base. CAS but perfect for a celebrating grad.

**Remember you can get a 15% discount on any of Die-Version’s great dies by simply using my discount code karen15 when you check out at the Die-Versions website.**

Masculine Hot Camo Card for Let's Create Classes

Today I am sharing another card I am teaching August 26th and 27th at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids. (Call 715-424-1343 to sign up for this class or to ask for a class kit.) This one is a masculine card featuring my Hot Camo technique with embossing powders. IRL the camouflage looking strip is shiny and textured with bumps for an unique look. I used Taylored Expressions and Sue Wilson dies and Tim Holtz's spatter brush.  Take a look at this fun effect created with three colors of Nuvo Crystal Drops:

Exceptional Embossing Techniques Card for Let's Create Classes

I am busy designing cards for my next class at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids. Exceptional Embossing Techniques classes are scheduled for August 26th at 5:00 and August 27th at 10:30. This is one of the cards I am teaching in that class. If you can attend, you will make two cards with Fran Seiford's Deep Impressions technique and two with my own Hot Camo or Metallic Camo technique. Come back tomorrow to see one of the Hot Camo cards for the class.

June 17th and 18th I will be teaching the two cards and two boxes with Tonic Studios dies shown in this blogpost.  There are still some openings in the classes, so if you are local and want to attend, call 715-424-1343 to reserve your spot. If you are not local and want to receive a class kit with all the supplies to make all of the cards in any of the classes taught at Let's Create, just give them a call or send me an email.

I love how this card turned out! The gorgeous designer paper is from Ken Oliver. I used dies from Taylored Expressions, Memory Box and Poppy Stamps. Here is a close up look at the gorgeous texture in the bird when using the Deep Impressions technique:

Happy Birthday Wine Lover's Card from Crackerbox Palace

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing the Happy Birthday card I made for a very special person with Crackerbox Palace stamps. The owner of CBP and my dear friend, Vicky Briggs, celebrated her birthday last weekend and I made her this card with CBP stamps and BoBunny glitter paste (which CBP also sells at stamp shows.) I pulled out a couple fun stencils and sponged the background of the white A2 card with the ink getting lighter towards the left side of the card. I stamped, cut out and sponged ink on the wine bottle and wine glass, then applied red glitter paste through two other stencils. I stamped a fun Crackerbox Palace sentiment and added some Nuvo Crystal Drops to complete the wine lover’s card.

I am entering this card in the Make it Girly challenge at Crafting for All Seasons, and the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

Fast and Easy Guy Card

I needed a fast card for a special man recently and pulled out a bunch of NBUS to make this card. I started with an aqua blue card base and attached the die cut Frantic Stamper Fishing Card Panel. I stamped Best Wishes from a new set by Dina Wakley for Ranger. I die cut an owl from Taylored Expressions twice out of a dark brown scrap and added Nuvo Cosmic Brown Embellishment Mousse on one of them, then offset the two owls. I die cut a kraft border with Lil' Inker rectangle stitched dies and raised that border up on mounting tape.

Playing with Tonic Studios Flip Dies

I recently received two of the Tonic Studios flip dies and experimented with them to see what size envelopes would work with the completed cards. I know many of the Tonic Studios dies are larger than we usually see here in the states, and when you look at samples from over the pond, their cards are also larger than what fits into our standard size envelopes. The two samples I am sharing here fit into our legal or business size envelope and into a 5 1/2" x 8" envelope. Of course if you have an envelope maker, you can make the flip fold cards any size you wish. When making the card above, I first cut a piece of white cardstock 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" and cut the Forever My Friend Flip card base in the center. Once folded, I cut the folded width to 4 inches. I embossed the whole card with an A4 sized embossing folder by Sue Wilson. I die cut the oval pieces (which are part of this die set) out of aqua blue and white. Here is a look at the card flipped open:

I added a Happy Birthday sentiment die cut from Tonic Studio's Happy Birthday Pansy Topper Set and finished the card with Nuvo Blue Lagoon Glitter Drops in each embossed intersection. These die sets are so versatile! The oval inner pieces would make a gorgeous card on their own. I will have to try that soon!

For my second card, I die cut the "It's The Little Things" Flip die in the center of a 7 3/4" square piece of white cardstock. After folding the flip, this card will fit into  5 1/2 x 8" envelope. I die cut the sentiment and shaped inside die out of red mirror cardstock (from Tonic's Christmas Mirror Cardstock pack.) I die cut two black borders using Tonic's Moroccan Mosaic Simple Screens dies. I added some red pearls and red and black gems to the card front. Here is a look at the center of the card after flipping:

I left the center blank to write a personal message to the recipient. I am entering these cards in the Anything Goes challenges at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge,  Love to Scrap! and Craft Your Passion.

Birthday Card with Some Must Have NBUS

I saw the newest Tattered Lace magazine with this purse die and immediately had to order it! Then when I received it late last week, I immediately had to make a card with my NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff.) I started with a circular card base die cut with my Tonic Studios circle dies and on the front circle I die cut a Pinhole Circle border (also from Tonic Studios.) I die cut the gorgeous purse out of red mirror card and a few accents out of black mirror card. I raised a couple of the "leaves" for decoration. The sentiment is from another must have set I recently purchased from Gina K. I took two of the red mirror pieces that fall out from the top of the purse when die cut and added them to the top and bottom of the circular card to complete the card.

I am entering this card in the Happy Birthday with a die challenge at Dies R Us and the Create your Own challenge at 613 Avenue Create. (I chose shaped, birthday, metallic.

I masked parts and sponged on green. yellow and blue inks. I paper pieced a bright red flower to complete the CAS card.

Playing with Tonic Studios Purse Dies

I love making purses with Tonic Studios purse die sets and am sharing three more I made recently with you today. I admit my favorite of the two purse sets I own is the Kensington, but I played with the Chelsea too and both are available at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids. We are making the Kensington purse shown in this blogpost at the next classes I am teaching at Let's Create (June 17th and 18th), and above is another example of a different way to use this versatile die. (If you are not local and want the class kit to make all the projects from any class I teach at Let's Create, just let me or Franki at the shop know.)

I started with a fun leather like paper and embossed one side with Spellbinders Fabric Weave embossing folder. I applied Nuvo Pure Platinum Embellishment Mousse to the lacy cover of the other side of the purse. I die cut the heart purse tops which fit together with slits and close the purse. I added a heart charm also die cut with parts of the Kensington purse set and finished the purse with three Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops on each handle. Here is another Kensington purse I made, this one for giving a Christmas gift card:

More embossing and Crystal Drops make this little purse a delightful way to give a holiday gift card. Here is a new Chelsea Handbag I made with some of the new Ken Oliver Color Burst colors:

I sprinkled Fuchsia, Orchid and Turquoise Color Burst crystals on watercolor paper and spritzed with Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist to activate the colors and give the paper a lovely shine. When dry, I die cut all the pieces of the Chelsea handbag and a flower from the Plush Peony die set (also from Tonic Studios.) I decided to keep the pieces of the lacy front inside their holes so I applied tape behind it before the pieces came out. I embossed the main purse piece with a Quilted embossing folder by We R Memory Keepers. I attached the lacy side panels, a Plush Peony flower and a gem after putting the purse together. These little purses are so fun to play with and would make perfect little gift holders or table favors for a bridal or baby shower or any gathering of female friends.

I am entering these purses in the Anything Goes challenges at Win and Tonic and Wonderful Wednesdays.

It is so easy to design lovely cards when you start with high quality dies, then add lovely sentiment stamps and gorgeous ribbon! I started my Celebrations wedding card by die cutting and attaching Die-Version’s Mr. and Mrs. Background to an A2 white card base. I stamped the lovely wedding wish from a set of stamps called “Wedding Sentiments” by Joy Clair and attached a beautiful crinkly bow from DL.ART. I added some black and white pearls to complete the card front. On the inside of the card, I stamped another wedding sentiment from Joy Clair and attached the heart cut out from the same Die-Versions Mr. and Mrs. Background die.

I was having way too much fun creating cards with the products from our blog sponsors to stop at one card to share today! I love shaker cards and used two new dies from Die-Versions on this baby girl card. I die cut Die-Version’s Onesie out of a pink polka-dotted cardstock as well as cut the larger square card front with that pink cardstock. I also die cut a bunch of the images from Die-Version’s Baby Confetti out of pastel cardstock scraps to use as shaker elements. I attached a piece of acetate under the square hole in the front of the card. Then I attached the pink onesie and stamped “It’s a Girl” and the baby footprints from a set of acrylic stamps called “Oh Baby” by Joy Clair. I turned the card front over and attached two layers of thin mounting tape all around the opening, then dumped in the Baby Confetti and pastel beads. I cut a white square card base and attached it to the card front. I added the perfect pink crinkled ribbon bow from DL.Art to complete the baby girl card. Here is the baby girl card all shook up:

Lots of Layers at Scrapy Land Challenges

I am very happy to participate again this week as a Guest Designer at Scrapy Land Challenges which is one of my favorite challenge blogs. The theme of this challenge is Lots of Layers and use at least one of the die brands Scrapy Land sells. Here is a list of the over 40 different brands Scrapy Land carries.

I designed this floral layered shaker card for a dear friend’s birthday recently. I started with a white card base and attached a pretty flowered designer paper. Then I die cut and sponged a gorgeous Anna Griffin for Cuttlebug flowered layer. I also die cut the Memory Box Stitched Happy Birthday Rectangle and attached acetate behind it. I attached two layers of mounting tape around the edges and dumped in a bunch of colored beads, then sealed it again with acetate. Here is a close-up of the birthday shaker layers:

Why don’t you pull out your favorite dies and create a card for this challenge? The prize is a $15 Scrapy Land gift certificate and you know you can find something great you want there!

Happy Birthday Shaker Card

I have so much fun creating shaker cards using some of the awesome new dies available all over the place right now. I bought the new Happy Birthday card cover die from Poppy Stamps knowing my first card using it would be a shaker. I die cut it out of a larger blue card front and attached acetate on the back side. I added some fun birthday balloon brads in each corner, then flipped the piece. After attaching two layers of thin mounting tape all around the word openings, I dumped in a bunch of beads and birthday confetti, then removed the mounting tape covers. I find the easiest way to complete a shaker card is to place it in the upper right corner of a scoring board, then attach the card base (the same size as the shaker front) by lining both layers up in that upper right corner and pressing down. Here is another look with the shakers all shook up:

Beautiful Butterfly Card with Tonic Studios Dies

The challenge recently at my local stamp club was to create a card using a beautiful cut-out from K&Co. I incorporated some gorgeous new dies from Tonic Studios, a great sketch and my favorite Nuvo Crystal Drops and came up with this card. I die cut two of the Tonic Filigree Flourishes. The longer yellow flourish was attached to a flap on the left side of the card. Another blue flap was attached where the butterfly was popped up on pop dots. The smaller blue flourish was attached in the right corner of the yellow inside piece. I added blue and yellow Crystal Drops to the butterfly and flourishes. This is what the inside looks like with the front up:

I am in love with the new smaller word dies called Miniature Moments Tonic Studios just released! My favorite is "Sent with Love" used here in the inside of this card.

Spread Your Wings Brusho Card

I haven't posted a card with B/B/CB recently (Brushos/Bisters/ColorBurst) and I should really add MN to that acronym (for my recent favorite of the watercolor powders, Magenta Nuance.) They are all put away as I concentrate on creating cards with all my dies. But I do love a subtle background created by simply sprinkling my favorite crystals on watercolor paper and spritzing. In this case, I used Brusho Coloured Crystals lightly and spritzed with water. When dry, I simply stamped two lovely stamps from Dina Wakley with a black ink and added a punched bird. I layered the card front on black and then onto a yellow cardbase. CAS but very lovely and perfect for an encouragement card for a female friend.

CAS Flowers with Dies

I find myself buying and designing cards with mostly dies nowadays. I just love the look of a CAS (clean and simple) card with gorgeous dies on it. I could not resist the roses background die from Simply Defined with the center left blank for the perfect sentiment. In this case, I used a beautiful new die from Dee's Distinctively. This card will go in my stash for the next time a friend or relative is ill or facing surgery or needs to know they are in my thoughts.

I am entering this card in the Flowers challenges at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge and at Deep Ocean Challenge.

Crackerbox Palace Graduation Thank You Card

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a graduation thank you card I made for my sister and nephew with Crackerbox Palace stamps. In fact I made 50 of them! Thank goodness for my MISTI! After I did all the cutting and die cutting, I lined up the three graduation stamps from Crackerbox Palace and stamped each of the 50 card fronts easily and quickly. I used my nephew’s school colors and dies from Tim Holtz and My Creative Time. Loving the great graduation stamps from CBP that can be found here on the website!

Tonic Studios Fairy Tale Pocket Card

It's my turn to post a project on Blog Tonic USA and here, and I am sharing a Fairy Tale Pocket Card I created using many of the new Reflections fairy dies and Illustrated Paper Pack sentiments, plus a few other new favorite dies. Because there are so many lovely dies in the Reflections Range, I thought a pocket card with its many folds was a perfect project to show them on. I recently purchased a very large scoring board and included in the packaging was a CD with instructions to some projects including a pocket card that required 12 x 18 cardstock to make. Of course, I cannot share those instructions here, but I did find a tutorial here on line that shows how to make a similar project using paper about 8 ½ by 11 inches. The picture above shows the pocket card closed. On the front I attached a “fairy tale wish” from the Fairy Wishes Illustrated Paper Pack. The pocket card is held closed with a ribbon attached from the front and back. I added some Sherbert Shimmer Glitter Drops in the corners and on the pink hearts.

This paper pack has 3 each of the fairy pictures and three different sentiments all beautifully colored ready to be cut out and used on your projects. I used the outline die of each fairy to cut out each of them as shown here:

I die cut the Have a Beautiful Day sentiment and flowers from the Sew Pretty Circle Frame of the same name for the first page of the pocket card as you open it up. When the pocket card is completely open you see three more of the beautifully colored fairies from the Fairy Wishes Illustrated Paper Pack which were die cut with their matching outline dies. I added a candy treat in the center pocket with the “Cherish the Moment” from the Sew Pretty die of that name, but of course you could put a personal note or gift card in that or any of the pockets. The sentiments in the 1st and 3rd pockets slide out and were die cut with the Sew Pretty Pinhole Square Layering Die and the rectangle frame from Cherish the Moment Sew Pretty Set.

As you can see, all the squares of this fun pocket card were easy to fill when you have gorgeous dies and pictures like those in the Tonic Studios Fairy Wishes Reflections and Sew Pretty sets shared here today!

Tonic Studios and Nuvo Products Used: Fairy Wishes Illustrated Paper Pack, Reflections Dies: Cerys, Camellia, Bella, Ocean, Grace, Aurora; Have a Beautiful Day Circle Sew Pretty Frame Die, Cherish The Moment Sew Pretty Die, Sew Pretty Pinhole Square Layering Die, Nuvo Sherbert Shimmer and Blue Lagoon Glitter Drops, Tonic Tangerine Die Machine, Tonic Funky Glue Pen, Tonic Advantage V Blade Trimmer; Other: large scoring board, ribbon, corner punch

2016 School Color Graduation Card

I designed this card for my sister to give to the many friends of her son who are graduating this year from Durand High School (school colors purple and gold.) The flap fold card base was die cut with a die from Stampin' up. I embossed the card base with an embossing folder from Cuttlebug. There is a gold circle on the front and back of the flap (to add a personal message.) The "Hat's Off to You" sentiment is from Crackerbox Palace and the 2016 is a Memory Box die.

Nesting Frames Hugs Cards with Die-Versions Dies

Hope you are having a great day! It's my turn to post a card on Die-Version's blog and mine, and I am sharing this Nesting Frames Hugs card featuring Die-Version’s new Nesting Frames and Curly Word Hugs found here on the Die-Version’s New Release Page.  I die cut and layered purple and gold Nesting Frames to create the fun centerpiece of this card. I started with a purple piece of cardstock cut 5 ½” x 4 ¼”, then layered on a white piece embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder. I cut a strip of gold cardstock and attached it behind the white layer. I scored a fold at the top and then attached the Nesting Frames to it. I die cut and attached Hugs using one of the new Curly Words dies. I added another gold Nesting Frame to write a personal message on under the front flap. Here is a picture of the card with the front flap raised:

Tonic Studios Filigree Flourish Wedding Card

It's my turn to post a project on Blog Tonic USA and here, and  I am sharing a wedding center stair step card made with Tonic Studio’s new Filigree Flourish and other dies. It was really hard to pick a favorite out of the gorgeous flourishes in this new set! I know I will use all of them as a perfect addition to any type of card. For this card, I chose the beautiful rose flourish and die cut it out of Tonic Studio’s red mirror card from the Christmas Gloss Mirror Card pack. I die cut the romantic couple from Tonic’s First Dance Silhouette Scene out of the silver mirror card from the same set. I also die cut two extra roses out of silver and the “Cherish the Moment” sentiment out of the red. I created a center step stair card to feature these beautiful dies on following the template in this tutorial I found on line. I altered the dimensions of the side steps to 1 ½” wide which was a better fit for the rose filigree die cuts.  This card stands up to be displayed by the bridal couple and folds flat to be mailed.

Tonic Studios and Nuvo Products Used:  Filigree Flourish Die Set, Cherish The Moment Sew Pretty Die, Silhouette Scene First Dance Die, Tonic Christmas Gloss Mirror Card Pack, Tonic Tangerine Die Machine, Tonic Funky Glue Pen, Tonic Advantage V Blade Trimmer; Other: score board

Repeat Impressions' Flower Power Separates Release Celebration!

Repeat Impressions is releasing a fabulous new set of flower stamps and I was thrilled when Wendy asked me to join in the fun!  Please join us at The House That Stamps Built this week as we celebrate the release of Repeat Impressions' NEW stamp series, Flower Power Separates. Today is the last day some of the RI Rock Stars are posting their fabulous creations to showcase this fun new series. If you missed any of the cards already posted, you will want to scroll down at the RI blog and see them all!

These stamp designs are all now available as wood mount stamps and as plain, unmounted rubber in the Repeat Impressions online store. Can't decide which designs you like best? No problem! This complete series is also available as a plain unmounted sheet of rubber so that you can get ALL 22 stamps in this series at a huge savings.

I created two cards with the Flower Power Separates stamp set. I am fascinated with using positives and negatives with either stamps or dies with totally different results. On both of my cards I used white embossing powder, sponging with distress inks, stamps from the new RI flower set and the “You Cling Set” and some bling. But because some of the flowers were an outline and some were solid, the look is totally different.
