More Bright and Colorful Salad Spinner Cards With Dies, Embossing Folders and ColorBurst

I had so much fun playing with watercolor powders in my larger salad spinner for my newest video and today I am sharing three more favorites. This colorful background was created with a mix of Ken Oliver's  ColorBurst watercolor powders and his Liquid Metals, then embossed with a 3D embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp. The sentiment is from Sue Wilson and Creative Expressions. 

My last two cards feature a new Slimline Burst Builder die from Trinity Stamps and more salad spinner ColorBurst backgrounds. "Soar" is a favorite die from Quietfire Designs, the birds are from Impression Obsession and the butterflies were punched with various punches. "Take flight" is a clear sticker from Stamplorations. 

I had so much fun creating these salad spinner cards for my new video and hope my ideas inspire you to give some of these techniques and products a try! 

Brightly Spun Cards Made with Color Burst and a Salad Spinner

In my newest video here I show how to make  colorful backgrounds like this one using a salad spinner and watercolor powders. On these cards I used Ken Oliver's Color Burst powders which are very bright and some of his Liquid Metals as well. I die cut "BDAY" with dies from Dies...To Die For, raised them on white fun foam and put back in for the eclipse look. "Happy" is also a die from DTDF and the stitched balloon is from Crealies. 

I know the spinning can be even more effective when a little white is left so I deliberately did that on this red, white and blue celebration card. The sentiment die is from Cutplorations. 

I tried to make a sunset with my purple and red ColorBurst powders for this card and also sprayed it with Therm O Web Glitter Dust. Then I simple added a flying goose from Memory Box on red and purple layers.

Video - Cardmaking with a Salad Spinner and Watercolor Powders

I am spinning with delight after discovering a new way to make fun colorful backgrounds on my cards! I have never spun lettuce or spinach in a salad spinner, but now own two salad spinners dedicated to only crafty spinning as I share in my newest video here.

This is one of the many cards I share in the video and I show exactly how easy and fun it is to spin the colors onto the background of this card. I started with a smaller salad spinner but explain why I highly recommend a larger one like the one from Farberware I show in the video. I was inspired to try this technique by Karen Dunbrook but on her spun cards she used alcohol inks. I did not have much success with my limited supply of alcohol inks, but pulled out my Brusho Water Colors and made the three cards I am showing in this blog post. However, be sure to watch the video and check back here because I have many more cards to share with you using other watercolor powders and various products. The card above features the super cute Whittle Fish Trio and Whittle Sealife Sentiment Stamps from Poppystamps as well as the shaped stitched die from Whimsy Stamps. I show in the video how I spritzed watercolor paper with water, sprinkled on three colors of blue Brushos, sprayed again with Technique Junkies Shimmering Bliss Dolphin Cove spray and then spun the salad shaker for the magical results. I also sprayed this and many of my cards with Glitter Dust from Therm O Web for extra sparkle. 

Here is another of my favorite cards created with Brusho Crystal Colors watercolor powders and water in my salad spinner. It is so pretty and I simply added some birds cut with an Impression Obsession die set and a favorite sentiment die from Sue Wilson. The stitched squares are dies from Crealies.

Here is another card I share in the new video created with Brushos and the salad spinner. I framed the background with a beautiful die from Hero Arts, added a couple of punched butterflies and another lovely sentiment from Sue Wilson.

Watercolor Powder Comparison- Lindy's Magicals and Color Burst

All week long here on my blog I am sharing the cards I made with all my watercolor powders for the Watercolor Comparison video with LOTs of sample cards (and a card from start to finish with Brushos and a touch of sparkle from embossing powder.) Please click on the link to watch the video- I appreciate your support there.

One of my favorites of the watercolor powders I own is the Magicals from Lindy's Stamp Gang because they have a beautiful sparkle built right into them. I used fall colors of reds, oranges and yellows of the Magicals to create this background, then embossed the dried piece with a Sizzix embossing folder called Bohemian Lace. Then I simply added the beautiful "Thinking of You" from Quietfire Designs for a CAS lovely card.

I was in the mood for fall colors so for this card I used Ken Oliver's Color Burst in reds and oranges with some silver embossing powder, then die cut the gorgeous Maple Vine Frame from Tutti Designs. I layered it on a dark brown cardbase and added a colorful Thankful (die from Penny Black.)

Love is Love Wedding Card

Both of my kids recently asked for some same sex wedding cards and this is one I designed for them. I started with a large square white embossed card. I die cut the Groom Die Set from Tonic Studios twice and reversed one of them when attaching. The heart die is also from Tonic and I cut off the "s" so it says Mr. and Mr. The rainbow sketch hearts were created with a die from Simon Says Stamp and Color Burst. I used another lovely die from Tonic Studios on the inside:

Spread Love Rainbow Card

Spreading love is a good thing anytime and I had fun playing with my Color Burst powders to create this card. I used my ROY G BIV rainbow colors of Color Burst to create the background in this card. When it was dry, I created a heart out of safety pins and added "love" cut out with a Tonic Studios die and "spread" cut out with a Memory Box alphabet set of dies. I had some extra rainbow colored watercolor paper so I added some hearts to the inside of the card too:

These scribble hearts were cut out with a die from Tim Holtz. Have a great day and spread some love in whatever you do.

Musical Color Burst and Clingwrap Card with Tonic Dies

Earlier this summer I was designing cards for my next class at Let's Create (October 21st and 22nd in Wisconsin Rapids) on Beautiful Backgrounds and this is one of the cards I came up with using Color Burst, cling wrap and Tonic musical dies. Franki and I chose a different card for the class with this technique (seen here on this blogpost), and I realized I had never blogged this card. The theme this week at one of my favorite challenges - Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - is "Inspired by Music" and this card was indeed "inspired by music." Tonic Studio's Jukebox Jive die makes me want to get up and dance:) I cut him out of black and white cardstock and offset the two layers just a bit when I glued them together. The background is easy and fun to create. Simply sprinkle several colors of Color Burst (or any watercolor powder) into a crinkled piece of cling wrap, spritz with water or glimmer spray, and put a piece of glossy paper into the glorious mess. Crinkle up the cling wrap as desired on the glossy side. Wrap the cling wrap around the glossy paper and wait maybe 10 minute. When you remove it, you will see the beautiful background and it will be totally different every time. Allow the piece to dry or heat set if desired. I added some random circles made with black Distress Ink spritzed with glimmer spray and various round objects and also used the same mixture and my Tim Holtz spatter brush to add random black dots and splots. The musical notes dies on the front and the inside are also from Tonic Studios.

Beautiful Backgrounds Class Cards for Let's Create

I am loving this last card I designed for the Beautiful Backgrounds (With Dies) class I am teaching at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday October 21st at 5:00 and Saturday October 22nd at 10:30. I made a night sky with Color Burst and a masked then stamped moon with a new stamp set by Altenew. The fairy die and stencil are by Tonic Studios and I applied the gorgeous gold Glimmer Paste coming out soon from Nuvo through the stencil. Here is a close up look at the brilliant glimmer:

Playing with Tonic Studios Purse Dies

I love making purses with Tonic Studios purse die sets and am sharing three more I made recently with you today. I admit my favorite of the two purse sets I own is the Kensington, but I played with the Chelsea too and both are available at Let's Create in Wisconsin Rapids. We are making the Kensington purse shown in this blogpost at the next classes I am teaching at Let's Create (June 17th and 18th), and above is another example of a different way to use this versatile die. (If you are not local and want the class kit to make all the projects from any class I teach at Let's Create, just let me or Franki at the shop know.)

I started with a fun leather like paper and embossed one side with Spellbinders Fabric Weave embossing folder. I applied Nuvo Pure Platinum Embellishment Mousse to the lacy cover of the other side of the purse. I die cut the heart purse tops which fit together with slits and close the purse. I added a heart charm also die cut with parts of the Kensington purse set and finished the purse with three Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops on each handle. Here is another Kensington purse I made, this one for giving a Christmas gift card:

More embossing and Crystal Drops make this little purse a delightful way to give a holiday gift card. Here is a new Chelsea Handbag I made with some of the new Ken Oliver Color Burst colors:

I sprinkled Fuchsia, Orchid and Turquoise Color Burst crystals on watercolor paper and spritzed with Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist to activate the colors and give the paper a lovely shine. When dry, I die cut all the pieces of the Chelsea handbag and a flower from the Plush Peony die set (also from Tonic Studios.) I decided to keep the pieces of the lacy front inside their holes so I applied tape behind it before the pieces came out. I embossed the main purse piece with a Quilted embossing folder by We R Memory Keepers. I attached the lacy side panels, a Plush Peony flower and a gem after putting the purse together. These little purses are so fun to play with and would make perfect little gift holders or table favors for a bridal or baby shower or any gathering of female friends.

NBUS and Fun News to Share

One of my favorite challenges to play in is at Scrapy Land, because if you win you get a $15 gift certificate to use to pick out more dies. I have admitted in the past and am still addicted to buying dies. The challenge this time at Scrapy Land is Anything Goes as long as you use a die from one of the many companies they sell for. I used my favorite new die on this card from Poppy Stamps called Floral Frame.

I am happy to share that I have been picked to be a Guest Designer on the Scrapy Land blog from April to July. For this month, I can still participate in the challenges there. I am also entering this card in the NBUS challenge here.

 I was playing with my Color Burst for a class on backgrounds I am going to be teaching and this is the card I came up with. I embossed the watercolor paper with a crackled embossing folder from We R Memory Keepers before and after sprinkling on bright Color Burst Colors and spritzing with gold iridescent Glimmer Mist. The gold shows up much better IRL in the embossed lines. After it was dry, I attached Poppy Stamp's beautiful die and a punched butterfly, then added Tonic Nuvo Glitter Drops and Crystal Drops. I like to add a strip of the beautiful CB paper in the inside of the card:

Mixed Media Design and Happy Dance!

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and today I am sharing a Mixed Media style card I made with Crackerbox Palace stamps. I don’t often design cards in this style, but I was inspired by the new Just Mixed Media! Issue of Just Cards I received this week. The magazine is packed full of beautifully photographed mixed media wall art, tags, atcs, journals and cards. I have a four cards in the issue including a Happy card on the cover (a first for me.)

I started the card above by heat embossing with white embossing powder a few fun stamped images from Crackerbox Palace. Then I sprinkled on orange, green and purple Color Burst powders and spritzed with silver iridescent Glimmer Mist. I added some black Viva Modelling Paste through a TCW stencil. When that was dry, I sponged on some black distress ink through another TCW stencil and around all the edges. I also did some doodling in the petals of the center flower with a thin black marker. I attached the completed card front to a black A2 card base.

Take a Stamp Challenge at Craft Stamper Magazine

I am loving the serene "Snowy Grove" stamp from Penny Black and designed this snowy scene card featuring it recently. I started with spattering masking liquid frisket all over a piece of watercolor paper and letting that dry. Then I masked the moon and the snowbank and created the night sky with Indigo Color Burst powders spritzed with water. After that was dry, I removed the moon mask and stamped with Penny Black's Snowy Grove stamp several times using my MISTI. The MISTI (Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented) allows me to stamp repeatedly when needed to get a good image keeping the stamp in the same place each time. I removed the snow bank mask and stamped the sentiment from CTMH, then rubbed off the snowflakes masking liquid frisket.

Deep Impressions & Color Burst Fall Card

I am having so much fun with Stampendous embossing enamels and the Deep Impressions technique taught by Fran of Stampendous. Our challenge this month at our local stamp club was to make a Fall or Thanksgiving card with the four sided folded card. I started with two pieces of watercolor paper and sprinkled on several colors of Color Burst, then spritzed with gold iridescent spray to activate the colors and make them sparkle. I cut circles with a Nestabilities die, then cut in half and attached. I die cut a leaf using a Stampendous die and placed it on a craft sheet on an electric griddle heated to 300 degrees. I melted a layer of clear ultra thick embossing powder then added Aged Hunter embossing enamel (beautiful gold with dark green from Stampendous) and then sprinkled some sparkly green on top. While it was still molten, I removed from heat and stamped quickly with an old text background stamp from Stampin' Up. I used more dies for the inside greeting:

Happy Birthday DH Watercolor Card

Today is my DH's birthday and I made this card special for him. His favorite color is orange, so I used my Color Burst and Brushos to make this watercolor background. He also loved cats, so this loving kitties stamp from So Suzy Stamps is perfect for him. The "love" is a die from Penny Black.

Peaceful Snow Scene

I have posted several similar cards already, but I am really loving the look of the snowy night sky created with Color Burst and masking fluid, so I made another one. One of my favorite new Color Burst colors is the Indigo for a night sky and I add a little of the Ultramarine Blue for contrast. I have been watering down the masking fluid so I can easily flick it onto the watercolor paper with a cheap brush. I found it was too thick to flick it otherwise. After the Color Burst dried, I removed the masking fluid by just rubbing it with my finger. I tore a layer of snow and added my die cuts for a peaceful Christmas card. The tree and "peace" are both Sizzix dies (by Tim Holtz), and the dove is by Die-Versions.

Greatest Blessings and Color Burst Roses

I just purchased a new stencil from Tim Holtz called Scribbles, but I like it because it looks like gorgeous open roses. I placed the stencil on a piece of watercolor paper and sprinkled on two colors of Color Burst and spritzed with pearl shimmer spray. After it was dry, I cut the strip and then stamped half a rose on the piece that was left. I also stamped the rose on a white scrap and cut them out. I chose this sentiment because it states perfectly how my life is so blessed with the friendships I have.

Thinking of You Masculine Card

A couple weeks ago I wanted a masculine thinking of you card for a friend who needed surgery. I made this card especially for him with my favorite Deep Impressions technique and Color Burst in the background. Both these techniques and products will be featured in our upcoming workshops and the friend who received this card will be part of the group learning all about them in mid October. I masked off the sides of the white cardbase and sprinkled on Merlot, Burnt Orange and Yellow Ochre Color Burst and spritzed with gold iridescent shimmer spray. After it was dry, I attached the "Thinking of You" cut with Die-Versions dies. The deer heads were pre-cut chipboard (purchased at Hobby Lobby) that I covered with Seasonings and Aged Copper embossing powders from Stampendous and stamped into with a Technique Junkies stamp while they were still molten.
